As I mentioned before, I use Twitter mainly as another channel to inform people about my blog posts and my emails. This means I rarely actually log into Twitter for the sake of twittering but instead “syndicate” stuff to Twitter. I guess the days of that is quickly coming to and end, as my Twitter account got suspended and I believe a lot more accounts too.
According to Twitter:
Commercial or promotional use of Twitter is allowed. There are many companies who create valuable, opt-in relationships with users on Twitter who want to keep up to date with them. However, if you are following other accounts in order to gain attention to your account or links therein, you may be considered spam. If you are creating a series of accounts in order to promote the same thing, you may be considered spam. If you are sending large numbers of @reply messages that are not genuine replies, you may be considered spam. If you are creating updates in order to show up in search results, you may be considered spam. If you are disguising links (i.e., writing about one thing but linking to another), you may be considered spam. If a large number of users have blocked you (relative to those following you), you may be considered spam.
Well to be honest I’m not an aggressive user and I did not do any Twitter campaigns or promotions that produce “large numbers of @reply messages that are not genuine replies”. But it’s true that all my Twitter posts link back to my blog or website and not just a “what I am doing now” type of message. If that’s what they consider as SPAM then I believe a lot more people would be in the same boat as me.
Anyways I will try to get my Twitter account back up, but if I can’t then no big deal. I would not be Twittering according to their ideal usage any time soon

How many times can they suspend you before they permanently close your account? I think they are to sensitive to certain behaviors, people are getting frustrated with them just shutting them down without warning!
same thing just happened to me, its been about 12 hours since my accounts been down. i’m searching forums looking for answers. I might have to open another account.
@Gobala Any luck so far my friend (did twitter customer service reply you)? I am having a problem with Twitter a few days after they got hacked. Now I am sent to a blank page for resetting of password (which I forgot). My followers keep growing but I can only tweet via Su.pr It’s frustrating!
Same thing happened to me this morning i have been emailing twitter there emails dont really help. Do you get your twitter account back?

In order to avoid getting suspended by Twitter (happened to me too a while back) I post straight news stories from Google Alerts that are directly related to my main topics of interest. My followers comment often about these tweets, and they seem to be more open to reading my blog posts and biz op posts as well. I also have the RSS feeds posting to twitter every time I update my blogs. If you are not using TwitterFeed.com, go check it out. It’s cool.

Basically ! I was doing the same thing that you where Commercial or promotional use of Twitter is allowed That is basic what I’m using twitter for !
My Account was Suspended I just enrolled in on twitter On 28th of May ! This is my first time using Twitter and I don’t know and understand why my account was suspended ! I was not spamming or nothing out of line. Trying find out why !
I can not get an answer ! delbius was assigned to my request.
Guess what Gobala? Mine was suspended twice within a span of an hour. 2 days ago. Both times, I got my account back very quickly.
Reason? Twitter Bot thought I was a spammer.
Reality: I had 500 followers within a period of 2 days. Where these followers came from I had no idea but from what I see, I had more Singaporeans and Malaysians following me this time. I NEVER had this kind of crazy “following”!!
Er…back to what I was trying to say. The support staff who helped me out is @Delbius I can help to relay any of your suspension accounts if you wish? Just give me the green light for me to do this!
@ kelly – Actually I forgot all about my Twitter account. I guess since there is a chance of getting it back I might as well give it a shot too..

I`m in the same situation, after three weeks without nor one changing, this is the third day when my account was suddenly suspended. I wrote in their forum, sent emails daily to at least to understand what was the reason… nor a chance, they sent my to dead links in forum or to threads closed to comments. Nor one upset, just the reality.
More than you, I answerred to all followers with manual messages, without nor one link inserted, just a “thank you” and “have a good day”, then I followed each of them. All these theree weeks in the same way. I think about me as I`m not a stupid man, but I can`t find a logical reason for what they do. Seems as the power make the rules. I apologize for so long comments, all the best for you,

@ doruman – I find that hard to believe, as in your case it seems to be no reason to suspend your account..

Sure we can but any Twitter script, but making it a Twitter replacement is a whole new story. I dont want to be the only person in my Twitter clone website

Sorry to hear about that Gobala! I use auto-DMs and every auto-DM is the URL of my blog. So far no one has complained about spam (touch wood!) What I suspect is, when a lot of people (like, more than 40 at a time) are suddenly unfollowing you (bearing in mind there are also many who would just unfollow after following people for 1 or 2 days), Twitter system automatically suspends the account.
If you query them about the sudden suspension despite you didn’t spam, they will re-instate your account without affecting the number of your original followers.
Try passing your message to GetSatisfaction.com where twitter staff are around to help. I really hope you get your account back!

never mind Gobala..If you can’t activate you twitter account back, don’t just overfocus on them..I think majority Twitter members do the same just like you…
I’m the same, I rarely log in Twitter and it mostly posts feeds from my blogs. Once in a while I do log in and type something without links so it doesn’t appear “too spammy”. You must have had a LOT of followers to get noticed somehow.
Still haven’t created a tweety account. Should I?

Twitter was hit with spam from auto DM’s and auto follow. I canceled my auto DM (its considered rude), but still maintain my auto follow.
I’m still threading carefully tho. I hope you get your account reinstated.
I really get confuse. I think 80% of twitter users are did the same things. Need to get some clarification from them.
Seems I’m in the same boat as you, but to-date my account is still active. I use twitter to basically tell people when my blogs and other websites are updated. It’s funny that twitter would scorn on that use, yet the people who’s connected to me via twitter have the option to unfollow if they found the way I make updates, intrusive or not why they follow me.
They should be more concerned about people who fatten their follow #’s with the use of software.
