So let me mention a project that my friend Kidino is working on, UploadnSell.com

It’s a software application that helps you sell digital products online, and currently works only with PayPal. Although there are other systems you can use to sell online, UploadNSell.com makes it look very easy.

From the main screen itself, instead of asking you to create an account first, it asks you to create your first product. Just select a few files, put in your price details, enter your PayPal email address and support email, and you’re ready to go.

1. Make money online, for beginners?
2. Search engine / getting more traffic?
3. Automation software for managing a company?
4. Blogging tools and systems?
5. Ecommerce / affiliate marketing systems?

Tell me what’s on your mind. There is no right or wrong on this, just your opinion on what you need to make your life easier.

It works both ways of course – feel free to use any idea submitted here for your own products or in your business. After all, the more solutions we have, the better it is for you, the end user.

But I really want to achieve more than that, and I decided last year that the only way to move forward is to forget about information marketing. Instead, I now see information as the “icing on the cake” type of business.

It’s great and easy to do when you have already built a strong business model doing something else. But to depend on it solely is suicide. It’s the truth.

What is the problem with information marketing?

Firstly, for the sake of people who still don’t get it, “information marketing” basically involves selling in-demand “how to” information on a particular topic. People are willing to pay for that information because they perceive you as the expert who has inside information, experience and a proven method for success.

In my case, the topic has mostly been about blogging and making money online.

Information marketing has 5 serious flaws:

• It gets outdated easily – Unless you’re in an evergreen market like dating, losing weight etc, from the moment you sell your information product it’s on a downward spiral to being viewed as “old” or “outdated”.
• “Version 2” always fails to excite – Publish a successful e-book today, lots of marketers are interested in promoting it. A year later come up with version 2 and you’ll be lucky to get the same level of success. There are exceptions of course.
• Your scope is limited – You may be an expert in one field. But how many different e-books can you spin on the same topic? I know some marketers who produce tons of new e-books and membership sites on just one topic (and are successful at it), but the truth is that each of those products contain 80% the same information. If you are honest to yourself, it is not good value to your loyal customers.
• It’s not truly scalable – You are the expert. You must be the one creating the actual “information” part of the product. Sure you can have a big team to do everything else, but people buy the product because of you. It’s impossible to train your staff to become you.
• Shrinking residual income – Now, creating any information product by itself will get you some sort of residual income. But it’s always on a downward trend, refer to point number 1 and 2. The only real solution is to keep coming up with new information products.

Now, I’m not saying that I will never create an information products again. Rest assured, I have mastered the art and I will create them from time to time. However, it’s not going to my bread and butter.

So then what will?

I’ve decided to move towards creating software applications. Not just any type of software, but specifically web marketing software.

After searching my soul for the truth, I realize if I want to move forwards, software is the answer. It’s the only way to keep moving forward, make improvements, and still achieve ever-growing residual income.

It’s the only real solution to grow an Internet marketing company exponentially. It’s also the most profitable option in the long run.

Sure, there are many players in the software game. Just as there are many players in the information marketing game. But I have an edge here that is unique to me, which no one else has. What this “edge” is I rather not say until it’s proven.

I am pretty confident that I can be successful in launching at least two profitable software applications within this year. This is the year that I need to breakthrough to the next level.

I will do it.

Our conversation centered around buying software. We noticed a BIG difference between buying software from Internet marketing gurus, and buying software from developers.

Let’s take membership site software as an example. Depending on what it’s supposed to do, membership site software can be quite complex and intimidating to the non-tech user, especially newbies. So you can either buy the membership site software from an established developer like Amember or you can get a membership site from an Internet marketer, for example the Butterfly Marketing script.

Buying Software from Developers

By “developer” I mean a person or company (usually made of programmers) who develop a particular piece of software and sell it online. One thing I noticed is that their software tends to be very well coded, does what it’s supposed to do perfectly, and seldom crashes. Even if it does crash, there is usually a good deal of online support available.

However, the downside is that these developers seldom understand the complexities of online marketing and therefore do no develop the applications that users want. Amember for example, still does not have a OTO or One-Time-Offer plugin, and their affiliate program interface is pretty sad. Reporting functions are lame too.

But Amember does what it’s supposed to do – which is protect folders and files while accepting membership payments – extremely well. It’s also, in my opinion, pretty easy to use.

Buying Software from Internet Marketers

The Internet marketing group seems to understand online marketing much better, and develop their software with the purpose of making it easier for users to sell more products, get more members, train more affiliates and get more viral traffic.

However, most Internet marketers seem to operate from the hit-and-run business model – let me explain. When Mike Filsaime launched Butterfly Marketing, a vital part of his system was the membership site script. It was not the first to have features such as OTO, but it certainly did OTOs and upsells / downsells better than any other script.

After the initial launch and hype died down, it seems that Mike Filsaime had already moved on to other projects and any new development to the BFM script was abandoned. A great product no doubt, but the fact that it’s no longer being developed would mean that support becomes limited, and as a result it would not make sense trying to use the script in the long term unless you’re a programmer.

Anyone who’s tried to use the Butterfly Marketing script however would notice how disorganized the system is, and the lack or documentation and support. Also, a lack of a parallel community that supports to develop related applications and guides for the software.

The Verdict

Unfortunately as far as buying marketing software is concerned, it seems that you cannot have your cake and eat it too. If a developer makes a really good piece of software that has all the features I want plus more in the pipeline, I would prefer to be his customer.

I’ve been using Amember for over a year now and their support is always great. The only reason I may want to move away from them is if they do not have features that I really need.

Internet marketers who develop software do a good job as well, but it seems that their dedication and attention to keep on supporting their creation is simply not there. Although a few exceptions like John Delavera (Fantasos), Jonathan Leger (3 Way Links and Instant Article Wizard) and  Brad Calen (Keyword Elite and SEO Elite) have the best of both worlds, in reality most Internet marketers would eventually abandon their software in search of easier, faster money.

Allow me to list 10 of such, that has helped me in the first half of 2007:

1. Aweber ($17 / month) – At the moment, this is the ONLY autoresponder and email management software I use. If you want to build a big mailing list, forget DIY scripts and just Aweber. You can’t go wrong within this software.
2. GoTryThis ($47) – I use this to track ALL my affiliate marketing activities. I don’t send out a direct link links anymore since I got GTT Black Hat. The White Hat version is more than enough for simple affiliate marketing tasks.
3. WordPress (Free) – Powers almost all my blogs. Although it was sort of difficult to use in the past, with the latest update things just got a whole lot easier.
4. Amember ($147) – Membership site software, which I use in Internet Millionaires Club – I like this so much I have one spare license.
5. Feedburner (Free) – I have no idea how to create an RSS feed, or how to manage on. All I know if where to find it, and I leave the rest to Feedburner.
6. Kayako ($29/month) – At the point where I was getting 20-40 emails a day, I invested in Kayako and it has been one of my best investments so far. It’s highly scalable and can accommodate as my staff / products / websites as you want.
7. Instant Article Wizard ($67) – I’ve written some pretty impressive articles on topics I know nothing about using this nifty software. I’ve even showed in to my friend who write for a living (newspapers and magazines), and they got one as well. It really makes article writing and research easy.
8. ASK Database ($19/month) – My very first product is a result of the ASK database, which is a survey tool and survey search engine. It’s extremely useful for understanding the needs and lingo of a market. Once you know that, you can turn that knowledge into a product or as content for your blog.
9. Pamela Skype Recorder ($17) – I use this software to record calls on Skype, and I’ve create a handful of successful audio interview products with it. Again I’m not a tech guy so I really appreciate software that makes it easy for me to mess with technology.
10. SEO Elite ($247) – The only keyword research cum SEO software that I have, and use. The cost was hard for me to swallow at first, but I got over that block eventually. SEO Elite is really powerful, and yes I know that different people have different things to say about SEO Elite, but I’m pretty satisfied.
