Review: Traffic Manuscript by Kelvin Hui
I had the privilege of being one of the reviewers for Kelvin Hui’s Traffic Manuscript before it was launched.
Traffic Manuscript is a 2-part ebook on generating traffic to your websites, and is mostly based on an Internet marketing seminar in Japan.
Kelvin Hui is a low-profile web marketer who focuses on building both White Hat and Black Hat sites, but this manual itself is about White Hat strategies, and how you can use them in today’s Internet marketing world to make money from Google Adsense and other content-based advertising models.
The 2 parts of traffic manuscript:
- Main manual - This is where Kelvin Talks about getting traffic, SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and other traffic methods using user-generated content and portals (an online dating portal example is given)
- FirendEarth.com Case Study - A case study of his video website that generates millions of unique visitors every month and eventually became a partner of Yahoo Japan.
I have been trying to reverse-engineer Kelvin’s sites, especially FriendEarth.com, which is a video posting website that rewards it’s users for posting content (with Adsense sharing).
His site was later included as a partner of Yahoo Japan and marketers all over the world started to hear Kelvin Hui’s name a bit more often.
Kelvin was perhaps the first to come up with the idea, but sometime last year he also offered his script for sale, after which I noticed a few knock-off sites built on the same concept.

I know for a fact that Kelvin still makes about a six figure income in Google Adsense every month from his high-traffic websites. (You can see proof at the Traffic Manuscript site)
A Few Things You’ll Love About Traffic Manuscript
It’s always good to know that you’re getting first hand knowledge from someone who knows exactly what he’s doing.
And that’s what Traffic Manuscript is about. Kelvin shows you the strategies he uses to generate massive traffic, and he also reveals some important case studies.
No filler words to make the ebook thicker, and not much fluff. Lots of screenshots, which I personally like (I’m a visual person).
A Few Things You May Not Like
The main manual itself is a report on his seminar presentation in Japan, and most of the examples are from the Japanese market. On the other hand, this could be great exposure on a market that not many people can talk about.
(Kelvin is based in Hong Kong, but he has offices in a few countries including China and Japan).
If you’re particular about language and grammar, then this ebook may disappoint you. There are no spelling mistakes, but the English used does sometimes seem “grammatically incorrect” at times.
But if you’re up for the content, you’ll have to ignore these, and realize that it’s not an English lesson.
After all, Kelvin’s not talking about writing content - he’s talking about user-generated content.

Hi Gobala, I really want to thank you for writing
Hello Gobala,
May I know what is the main content of that ebook ? Do we need to have HTML knowledge to create that traffic ?
How does he drive traffic ? Paid traffic ? Adwords ? Autosurf traffic ? SEO google traffic ? Myspace marketing ? article marketing ?
I have seen so many of these marketing ways nowdays. I hope this is something real where everyone can drive few million hits to their blog each day.
Thanks.
i ma interested on it oso. how to get it?
Hi Zarun,
I have to say it’s none of the things you mentioned. Take a look at the case study, although I dont think you can understand it, in Japanese: http://www.friendearth.com
If you’re familiar with the term “user generated content”, that’s what the book talks about. Getting other people to create content, with portals, social community etc.
Plus to be honest, I dont think most of us (me included) can drive 2.5 million site visitors to our site / blog, so if that’s what you’re hoping for you may be disappointed. He’s not selling the traffic
But there may be a few lessons in there which may help you achieve better results than what you’re getting now.
Hi PohEe,
To get Traffic Manuscript you have to click on the link: Traffic Manuscript
Payment by Clickbank, if your card doesnt get through, Paypal always does
Are the methods taught in the manuscript difficult/expensive to implement?
Hi Gobala,
Thanks for the info. Sounds good.
But it looks like “user generated content” websites do requires some level of HTML, PHP, SQL programming which may be a little hard for me.
Hi Gobala,
I like your blog and this is the first time I leave a comment here.
I would like to know are these methods applied to user generated content portal only or applicable to niche blog as well? Thanks.
Iry,
No the manuscript does not talk about blogging.
Hi Zarun,
I had to check back, the case study does not show you how to design a user-drive website, in technical terms. It covers more on the strategy, SEO, concept, and optimization.
If you’re looking for an easy solution you may want to try Joomla: http://www.joomla.org
Of course it may also require some custom programming if you wan to add videos and what not, but at least you already have a basic structure to work with.
Hi Gobola,
Thanks for the review. I was considering getting it at first, but after reading the review have decided not to, even though I’m sure the book offers some very good information on traffic generation.
For me, at this time, I just need to stick to what I’m already doing (article marketing, link exchange, link directories, a little PPC, etc.) rather than getting side-tracked by something else. That’s a real temptation of course, rushing into doing the latest thing, and not fully following through with what I’ve already started. But I know that if I just focus on what I’m already doing, I’ll be able to generate some decent traffic eventually.
Hi Jesse,
Sure thing, if you’re deep into a project you may as well focus your resources on doing it.
Hi GK,
Thanks for taking time for the review. As you were saying is not a easy task to drive 2mil traffic like what kelvin did.
There are many ebook out there promised you a huge traffic will be there if you applied what you learn, but i think this “user generated content” is not for every body, especially the newbie like me, am i right?
As for kelvin, i think he has a strong strategy, tips, seo concept that make his website flooded with 2.5 mil visitors. I respect him, he take many years to acheive this. You will take time not just by applying the seo, strategy you will get million of visitor overnite, correct if i am wrong!!
Maybe not for newbie, especially say, if you have never built a website before. Kelvin has 7 years of publishing and SEO experience, so yes he didn’t do it overnight.
I have read the ebook. Basically it is teaching you to how to set up your web publishing business and driving traffic. He explain the use of different kind of traffic for different kind of purpose of website. Good read, but then the examples are mostly based mostly in japan.
Woohoo! i cannot believe you actually dropped by my site! i do read your blog and have learnt lots from you! I’m in the midst of promoting Traffic Manuscript as well.
Nice Review Gobala.. btw does the Ebook review anything like showing you in details how to use the white hat methods to get traffic?
Gobala,
I have bought the Traffic Manuscript and I was dissappointed.
In my view, Kelvin states the obvious about getting traffic by giving visitors what they want.
He selected a very spacific marketing niche of youngsters from 18 to 26 interested in Video and music downloads and gave them what they wanted.
This niche represents the major internet using cohort in Japan. I am not surprised he succeeded.
Maybe I am missing something?
Thanks Gobala for the Joomla website.
I will take a look at it.
hmmm… I have an idea, since I am not good at building websites, perhaps I can get some freelancers to do it for me. and wallahhh FriendEarth Malaysia would be born. Great idea right ?
interesting..
i should get that too. hope will increase traffic to my website too..
anyway, gobala, did u have that already ??
Gobala. there is a spelling mistake. “FirendEarth.com Case Study”
one more tip. If you are expecting lots of visitors to ur site, make sure your server can handle it. When my site hit 35000 visitors on a day, it nearly died. Luckily I had a backup plan.
Hi Chris,
I guess it always seems obvious in retrospect. When you’re looking back at a documented case study it always does seem that way..
I have read another review on another blog here is the link:
http://gorichsoftware.com/product-reviews/product-review-kelvin-huis-traffic-manuscript
there is a preview copy over there too. you might want to read the preview before deciding whether the manuscript is for you.
Gobala,
Upon your e-mail recommendation, I’ve purchased this manuscript and I have been disappointed.
I’m sad to say that there is nothing exciting and or thought provoking within.
85 pages of dribble. Actually, in reality this is 40 odd pages of double line spaced dribble.
It is worrying to see endorsements by some credible Internet marketers, yourself included. This report doesn’t live up to the price tag. Maybe for $19.95USD I could have stomached it.
To summarize this manuscript in a few words in which are emphasized through out by the other; Music, Video and Age demographic. Figure it out, easy.
Sorry Gobala, thumbs down.
PS. I don’t want to discourage anyone from buying this product as it may be useful for some people.
I also bought the “manuscript” thinking it’d be some really great traffic generation techniques, especially when endorsed by Joel Comm, Gobala, etc.
Having read the entire 80 pages and his case study, I find it to be utter crap. With an extremely broken English, large paragraph spacing, and plenty of white spaces, anyone can come up with an 80 page “traffic revealing manuscript”. This eBook is for 1st day visit newbies!
But of course, that’s why affiliates support these products. They earn money, the creator earns money. It’s a win-win for them, only the buyer loses.
No secrets revealed I’d say!
(This post will likely be removed)
Well i did mention language and some other stuff in the review. And I did learn a few things from it myself, maybe my current knowledge on traffic isnt as good as yours (no pun intended).
And btw I dont remove any comments unless it is defamatory, personal attacks, foul language or unrelated comments. I’m very well aware that a review would generate both good and bad comments, not just for this product, but for all products.
I can handle the poor English, heck, I deal with many Asians, many of whom have horrible English, however you must look beyond that and understand what it is that the individual is trying to convey.
In this case, I understood Kelvin to the point, but there was not much of a point to begin with. That’s the problem.
For someone who is supposedly as renowned as he, at generating traffic (as per the statement of testimonials) I would have expected some knowledgeable content.
Many E-books today are rehashing much of the same old, with a few people giving their own take on the matter. Maybe I have read too much, therefore I expect too much, but as Nack said this E-book is for “first day newbies”.
Kelvin clearly was going for a quick buck and so to are those affiliating his product.
If he had packed 100 pages of regular line spaced text with well thought through content he would have saved himself some face, some reputation and some repeat business from the likes of me and others.
Btw, I’ve got no problem with the likes of you or Ewen Chia or Joel Comm linking to Kelvin’s product to earn a few affiliate bucks from your own external site and or review but when you see familiar and well known faces giving testimonials you could not help but wonder whether or not your guys “actually” read his report in full. I know for one, if I were as renowned as you Gobala, to which you have a good following, I would have thought long and hard about splashing my testimonial on his page.
The word of mouth effect is the one you need to watch out for…
Thanks
I also bought the eBook and I was VERY VERY Disappointed. I’ve bought many traffic ebooks and so far this is the worst eBook I’ve bought.
I want to ask a refund. Btw, anyone knows how to get a refund? I paid via PayPal and I’m sure if I open a dispute, I will definitely lose.
Any suggestions?
Clickbank has an 8-weeks return period, so you can get your refund from the product owner or cb.
Hi All,
Sad to hear that there are so many set back on the manuscript. It was a surprise to me a ebook that was reviewed by so many wellknown marketers can come to so many disappointed messages. It is almost 85% buyers is not happy on the ebook.
Well, this is IM world with so many hype out there some marketers just want to make a quick bucks out there. I have learn some great lesson, never trust sales letter but i dont mean all product is suck or crap, do have some great stuff. But just have to be careful before you punch in your credit card number:(
Take care.
So I just have to open a dispute in the PayPal Resolution Center right?
I have also sent an email to support[at]trafficmanuscript[dot]com requesting a full refund to my PayPal account.
Hoping to get their reply soon
wah.. i am shocked to see so many negative response.. anyway… internet products are like that.. but.. in general most clickbanks are still ok.. some cant even refund that’s worst.. =P
Well, I’ve made a dispute via PayPal and as expected, the dispute was closed by PayPal a few days later without a refund.
Then, I sent an email to Clickbank and after 3 days, I got my refund
