Offering Resell Rights or Master Resell Rights is a trend in Internet marketing today. However, just because you bought a product with resell rights included may not always mean you can sell the rights as part of the product.
Here are the basics of resell rights:

Here’s the explanation:
- Owner / publisher - Creator of the product, who can choose to give away rights to customers. The owner may also choose to sell directly from his website.
- Resell Rights - If you secured the resell rights from the owner, you may sell the product to an end customer only.
- Master Resell Rights - If you secured the master resell rights from the owner, you may (1) sell the product only (2) sell the Resale Rights only (3) sell both. You cannot, however, sell the Master Resell Rights to anyone..
- Generic Resell Rights - Anyone who buys the product directly from the owner can choose resell the product. In this case, the rights are usually inseperable from the product itself.
Those are the basic type of rights. Here are a few more:
- Customization Rights - You pay the product owner to create a customized version of the product for you. This can include (1) changing affiliate links (2) co-branding (3) other type of customization
- Private Label Rights - This is a completely different thing. Also known as PLR, you buy the product in it’s raw stage and modify the contents to turn it into your own product.
PLR is the hot topic on the Internet right now because by getting PLR content (ebooks, articles, Adsense sites) you cut back your development time and costs dramatically. Niche Products Monthly is an example of a PLR membership site where you can get these “almost-ready” products every month.
Although PLR may be a good idea, please llok for the following criteria when choosing a PLR site:
- Limited Members - PLR is only worth something if not many people have access to the same source materials and research.
- Original Content - Beware of some sites that just buy content from other PLR sites and market it as their own PLR content.
- No-resale of PLR - Good PLR sites enforce in their terms and conditions that you may choose to do whatever you want with the source materials, except selling them off as PLR content. Get that?
If you’re in the business of selling resale right products, either as stand-alone or as a membership site, I suggest that you take a good look at the stuff you bought, and write down in a list what rights you have with each product.
If you only have the resale rights, you can only sell the product. If you’re selling the rights as well, then you’re probably breaching the Owner’s terms.

ok, understand. Meaning If i buy the book from you. Then i can only sell for others for resale right but not master resale right.
If i buy a product with Master Resell Rights, does it mean i can also give it away for free?
Thanks to Gobala for the wonderful explanation on “Resell Rights”. Indeed getting resell rights and selling someone else’s product can be a stepping stone for those who wants to start internet marketing. In my own experience I find this something very easy to start with because we don’t have to scratch our head to develope a product. Better still when the full suite of ecommerce package is built for you as you just have to focus on selling and keep smiling when you see the money coming through your merchant accounts. I personally found this very interesting
