No Deepavali for Me This Year

by Gobala Krishnan on October 17, 2006

Deepavali As with Hindhu customs, when there’s a death in the family, you’re not allowed to celebrate Deepavali for one whole year.

My uncles (dad’s brother) passed away early this month, and I just returned from conducting his 16th Day prayers in Seremban. According to customs, on the 16th day after a person’s death, his / her soul will return to earth, and therefore a prayer is need to send the soul on its journey to heaven.

Well, I’m not a pious Hindhu so I can’t elaborate further anyway. It’s finally over today, and I hope to regain my focus on everything I had planned for completion before end Deepavali, including my new site 100PercentMalaysian, a viral product on blogging, and a niche website on music.

Maybe I had planned too much? Well it all seemed possible before the whole tragedy :) Now I’m trying to keep up…

To everyone else, Happy Deepavali! Hope you enjoy it with your family and friends!
