Interview With Vishal P. Rao

Who is Vishal P. Rao? I don’t blame you for asking that question, because unlike other “I am God” type of internet marketers, Vishal is a low profile character.

From Manglore, India, Vishal is on the top of my “I-want-to-be-like-him” list. In fact there’s two things I learned from Vishal in my earlier days:

1) How to Write Articles
2) How to Build Websites
3) Search Engine Optimization Philosophy

Did I say two things? Well there’s a LOT more you can learn from this humble, intellectual guy.

His business? Well, as far as I can tell he doesn’t sell any ebooks or software. Here are some of Vishal’s websites (that I know of):

  1. Home Based Business Opportunities
  2. Work at Home Forum

One of his websites used to rank highly for a very competitive keyword, deservedly. Recently, it was dropped by Google for god knows what reason. This is part of the reason I stopped playing the SEO game. If a site created as beautifully and maintained as impeccably as his can’t stay on Google’s Top 10 where it should be, where’s my chance?

On my last chat with him, he told me that he’s focusing more on developing his forum, putting other projects on hold.

Thank you Gobala! I’m flattered :)

Yes it hurt me a lot when my site was dropped, but that didn’t deter me from pursuing SEO for my sites. Once you have experienced the power of search engines, you simply cannot ignore them. What you can achieve with the help of search engines in 1 year will take you 5 years without them.

The again, like everything in life, what goes up has to come down :)

Hi Vishal! Didn’t expect to see you here :)

I understand what you’re saying. I still do SEO but it’s very basic stuff. I try to target the right keywords which are less competitive and more accurate in terms of target market.

First I build and optimize. Then it’s promote all the way, without worrying about algos and tricks. The thing with SEO is even if you don’t get ranked in the SERP first page results, you still get tons of searches from other related terms.

Hello Visha,

Great to see you here. Anyway, for me, my tactic is always finding the keywords which contain the sub-niches in there. The trick is to find good amount of non-competitive keywords within the main keywords themselves. So if I don’t ranked well with the main keywords, I do get ranked well with the sub-niche keywords.

There was once where I did notice that the total amount of traffic coming from these non-competitive keywords was more than the main keywords itself.
