Integrate Aweber with Paypal or Clickbank

by Gobala Krishnan on December 12, 2006

Was reading the Aweber blog, and they just published some tips on integrating their Aweber system to Paypal and Clickbank.

With this integration technique, you can automatically subscribe paid customers to Aweber without asking them to fill-up a form (that’s what I do) after purchase. After the payment is made, Paypal / Clickbank “parses” the email address and name of the paying customer to Aweber, automatically subscribing him / her to your autoresponder.

If you do this successfully, you ensure that one one “accidentally” gets on your customer list unless their payment is legit. I’m still not sure if it’s worth all the hassle..

Hi Bob,

Yeah indeed as it’s mentioned on the Aweber blog, these are outdated now. They dint post any updates to it though, so I guess it’s still a work in progress.

Both of the above links which are in you article are not usable any longer because both paypal and clickbank have upgraded their services.

Unfortunately the email parser facility still requires the customer to confirm their opt-in… which pretty much kills all the benefit. (Not mentioned in the Aweber instructions either!)

So you still need to tell the customer to confirm the opt-in, explain how/why, and give them a good reason to.

And it looked such a promising feature too.

I read the blog regarding parsing the info to aweber from clickbank. Is exactly what I am looking to do, to avoid people having to opt in after purchasing my product.

But it also says that the email you provide for parsing could be used for other communications from clickbank (not sure what, maybe account status or admin mails??).

Since you are already using this method. Have you had any issues with this?

I have used both before, and unless GetResponse has had made some major changes, I still feel that Aweber is better..

Indeed, Brad. Weird. I trust that the form is in a visible area, and that future updates are free?

Yeah, they pay for the software and then are taken to a thankyou / download page. But only about 1/3 sign up for upgrades. weird huh?

Hi Brad,

Do you mean putting a pop-up on the Thank You page? I dont think I’ve ever seen that one before..

I guess not everyone wants the free upgrades… are you offering a free software, or do they pay for it?

I’ve been doing this for about a year. But still some people still don’t sign up for the free software upgrades announcements. I was wondering if anyone has compared doing a “pop-up” compared to an inline opt in to see if that makes a difference?

Thanks

Couldn’t you put it so that the aweber requests a confirmation once more after payment?

Yes Steven,

we could either put a notice that they will be automatically opt-in upon purchase of the product..or make it obvious that they have alredy being subscribe…so that they are aware.

It is good for customer who is really want to subscribe but dunno how..they can always have the option to opt out..of course..

however i rather not jump first, kinda like to see how others are experiencing this in the long run. sounds good but i see more cons that pros here…just the feel actually. :)

what you think..?

regards,
KeVin

Yes, I read that 2 days ago and stil thinking want to implement this or not. I guess if it is a genuine case, just put on the welcome email and mention that the customers has done the opt-in and give them choice to opt-out as well.

It can also be an abuse for some non-permission based email marketing.
