Google Playing God Again?

by Gobala Krishnan on April 17, 2007

During lunch with my friend Melvin Ng, he told me about Google trying to track down paid links. He was referring to the post on Matt Cutt’s blog about reporting paid links to Google.

The question remains as to what Google plans to do with those reports. Will they band services like Text Link Ads, Review Me, etc? How will they determine if a link is paid for? Should I remove my Text Link Ads code and hide in fear of being struck down by The Almighty G?

Google, the Microsoft of the Internet.

Ish, I was very close to using Google AdSense to monetize my blog, but seeing how much impact Google has on the Net made me very wary of not just how they’re controlling the online advertising world, but also how serious they’re impacting our online life — many of those influences I see are growing and not for the better.

Next thing you know, the only way for us to sell/buy our visitor traffic or for any such matter is through AdWords >:(
I like it not.

I believe (and according to Matt Cutts) there would be no penalty issue on having paid links. At most it will discount the ‘value’ of the link that influence the search result.

Gobala,

I think it’s time to switch from SEO to visitor optimization. I am looking to expanding my marketing to Social Networking and co-registration leads.

Cheers

I agree with your statement that Google is becoming the Microsoft of the Internet. A lot of things seems to be under their control now. Looks like the majority of people are against this move from the comments in the blog.
