Google Analytics Is A Must For All Internet Marketers

I got my Google Analytics account a few months back but never really looked at it or nothered to understand what it’s all about. After all, I already have AWStats to track visitors and search engine traffic, and Anaylytics didn’t seem much different.

In fact, at that time I though AWStats was better and easier to understand. I was wrong.
If you look at the main page of Google Analytics, you get four graphs:

(there’s one missing somehow, which shows you the Geographical location of your visitors)

The fours graphs are nothing to shout about. As far as traffic sources and incoming links, AWStats is way superior.

But the part that got me by the b**ls is a feature called “Site Overlay”. Here’s a screenshot of what Site Overlay does:

Site Overlay showed me EXACTLY which links on my blog my visitors click on, and the click-through rate or CTR. On the particular week that I got interested in Analytics, this was the most popular post on my blog:

It showed that people clicked on the Podcast link (CTR 3.32%) as well as a few other links as well. But right next to that, where I display Clickbank RSS feeds, the CTR was 5.37%. Now I know that people DO click on my CB affiliate links :)

This is an excellent tool to use for:

  1. Deciding where to put Adsense - Obviously, you’d want to place your Adsense codes where people’s eyeballs are to get the most clicks.
  2. Salesletter copywriting - Now you can determine if the “Order” now button at teh top really does work, or if you should have just one order link instead of 5.

There’s much more that I can think of, but I’m too lazy to write it here.

The bottom line is that every Internet marketer should have a Google Analytics account. You can sign-up at:

www.google.com/analytics

If you’re an Adwords user, you can also get an Analytics account inside your control panel area.

The best part is you can do literally any tracking with Analytics. You can even track clicks on Adsense units, although at thsi point of time I don’t know how that works :)

I’ll be able to figure it out soon once my new product is successfully launched.

Yes, i agree the “Site Overlay” feature is cool, however i am so pleased with another tracking system that also has the “Site Overlay” feature - http://www.w3counter.com

Really..if you have the time to review W3counter you should..i think it’s super cool..and it’s free (for 1 site tracking) and $4.95 for 3 sites..etc..
