Going The SEO Route
When I first started this blog, I had no idea what blogging really was about. I just knew that I had this domain name GobalaKrishnan.com and I had to do something with it. I had given up on SEO before after trying for several years on a few different websites. So when I first started the blog, I just wrote and wrote without having to think about keywords etc. I was good to take your mind off SEO for a while..
But after more than a year, this blog already gets 10,000 +/- visitors a month, and the only way forward is to rank well for popular keywords. I realized that most of the top bloggers have good search engine rankings, and although great content does make their readers come back for more, it’s the search engines that provide them with NEW readers every day.
So I’m in the process of identifying relevant keywords for this blog. In fact I’m going to identify at least 3-5 keywords that I would like to rank for. Here’s my strategy:
- Use a better permalink structure instead of the current yourdomain.com/2006/04/postname/
- Use the Permalinks migration plugin to avoid losing existing web traffic
- Use of internal tags with the Ultimate Tag Warrior plugin
- Implement a linking campaign similar to John Chow or better
- Clean us the CSS / HTML of the current theme
- Have more keyword-targeted posts in the future, while preserving the value of content itself
- Reorganize posts & categories for targeted keywords
I don’t see a reason why it can’t be done. I’m on to it now
