Choosing The Best Links in Commission Junction

If you’re a CJ affiliate (www.cj.com) here are a few tips on maximizing your affiliate revenue.
- Select affiiate programs with high network earnings - “Network Earnings” is the little green scale that shows how much this program has paid out to the entire CJ network on average. If the little green bar is full it means that this affiliate program converts well. Generally look for ones with higher network earnings.
- Select Links with High 3 Month EPC - EPC shows you how well a certain type of ad (banner ads, feeds, tect ads, dynamic ads) are performing. 3-month EPC is more reliable than 7-day EPC.
- Read between the lines and convert higher - Don’t rely blindly on the stats, as some of them can be misleading. Read between the lines and you’ll find a better conversion rate.
The example below shows that a 486X60 banner converts the highest. If you have experience using banners, you’ll know that the CTR (click through rate) for banners is disgustingly low. So how come a banner ad converts the most for this ‘credit report’ affiliate program?
The answer - the landing page is what really converts. So it’s not about the banner, it’s about where the banner takes the visitor to.
Here’s what you can do: Check the HTML code section for the banner and copy only the affiliate link used. See the “Destnation Page” details on your CJ account manager. Then use this link in a text format in your email marketing or as part of editorial content on you website.
Text ads convert much better than banner ads. If the stats shows you that banner ads perform higher than text ads, something’s not right.
90% of the time, it’s becasue the text link and the banner links point to different landing pages, and it so happens that the landing pages used by the banners convert at a much higher rate.
