In this post, you’ll find my SEOPressor review and SEOPressor coupon code that you can use to get a special discount. I haven’t recommended a premium WordPress plugin in a long time, simply because there aren’t many worth talking about. The SEOPressor plugin however, is different.

SEOPressor Review – How Does it Work?

If you understand search engine optimization, you know that SEO is divided into two parts:

On-Page SEO – Any optimization that you make to the actual page itself, including the content and the HTML structure

Off-Page SEO – Optimizations in your link strategy and any keywords used in links that point to your page.

SEOPressor is basically a plugin that helps you analyze your “on-page” SEO, the only part of optimization that is truly in your hands.

Once you’ve installed the plugin, the first thing you need to do is tell the plugin what your main keyword is.

It then tells you, based on a formula and best practises, what your “SEO Score” is. It also tells you what your keyword density is. “Keyword Density” is basically how many times your keyword appears in the entire page, based on the total word count for the page itself.

The higher your SEO score, the higher your chances of ranking highly for your keyword.

SEOPressor will tell you exactly what you need to change to achieve a higher SEO score. As you ake these changes, the items highlighted in RED will change to GREEN and your score will increase. The idea is to get a score as close to 100% as possible.

SEOPressor Results – Does it Work?

Does you wife really love you? Does god really exist? There are some things that you just cannot “prove” and SEO is one of them.

SEOPressor only gives you a guideline of the changes you need to make to get higher search engine rankings. You should not take the actual SEO score as an indication of guaranteed results.

Quite honestly, no one really knows the exact formula Google uses to rank web pages. Therefore, reading too much into the actual SEO score or keyword density score is a waste of time.

Furthermore, you still need to do some Off-Page SEO to get high search engine rankings – which SEOPressor doesn’t do. In a nutshell, you should view SEOPressor as one part of your overall strategy to rank better in search engines, not the only tool you need.

SEOPressor Review for Autoblogging

If you’re into autoblogging (creating automated blogs), then the built in support for autoblogging is a huge plus point.

You can allow SEOPressor to automatically enhance your automated blog content by creating your own optimization rules. Just do it once, and all you future content will be “SEO-proofed” instantly.

SEOPressor Coupon and Discount

I’ve manage to twist the arm of Daniel Tan, the creator of the plugin, to give my readers a special $20 discount that you will not find anywhere else than on this SEOPressor review page. You don’t need to enter any coupon codes either – just visit this special link to get your discount.

NOTE: $20 off applies to the Unlimited package only.

I hope you enjoyed this SEOPressor review. Whether you’re building one blog or a few hundred, I would definitely recommend you get SEOPressor.

The top keyword of course is “gobala krishnan”. No points for guessing that.

Second is “work from home” and third is “internet business”, which means my SEO efforts are working to some extent.

But the rest just made me laugh. Why the heck do I rank for keywords like “mangkuk tingkat”, “my first time bahasa melayu”, “inflation rate” and “Labanon”.

Some of the posts I’ve written for fun seems to be getting more consistent free traffic from Google.

Great, you say? Not really.

Ranking for unrelated keywords, although it may bring you some extra traffic, doesn’t really help you achieve your goals. Will a person searching for “mangkuk tingkat” suddenly be interested in working from home after reading my blog?

Nope.

I’m offering links at such a low price because I want to populate the directory with a sizeable amount of inventory before increasing the price permanently.

If you want to be among the top 10 on the homepage or category pages however, you’ll need to enter a higher bid. Being in the top 10 will definitely get you better link juice and traffic, but even the basic $1 link is good enough for most cases.

To WWW or not to WWW? That’s the question!

When it comes to building websites, here are a few basic SEO or Search Engine Optimization concepts that everyone needs to know to avoid wasting their time and money. For my Malaysia students I cover a lot of this in the Internet Millionaires BootCamp, but in this post let’s tackle a seemingly simple issue.

Should you use “www” in your domain name or not?

For example, do I want my website to appear in Google as http://gobalakrishnan.com or http://www.gobalakrishnan.com? Is there any significant difference between the two?

In my experience it makes no difference whether you use the “www” or not. But what does matter is consistency. If you plan not to use “www” in links back to your website, then follow that method all the way.

Don’t submit your site to 10 directories using “www” and another 10 directories without them. Keep it consistent if you want your search engine rankings to improve fast.

Google recognizes the two as different versions of the same page, and it really wants to keep just one. But which one does Google use? By being inconsistent in your linking you’re giving Google mixed signals.

Ganted, you cannot control how other people link to you. For example you may want to link to my site from your blog as http://gobalakrishnan.com – and there is no way I can control what you do. But if I am actively using the “www” version of the URL, then there should be significantly more “www” links out there.

So what do you do, if you were not that careful in the past? Is there any way to fix it?

There are two simple methods: (1) use WordPress or (2) edit the .htaccess

Both are actually the same. WordPress helps to edit the .htaccess file in your server, which controls file permissions. If your site is not running on WP or other CMS systems then you need to do it manually.

Edit / Redirect in WordPress

In WordPress, just go to Settings > General and you can see something like this:

WordPress Redirect

By default, you will probably have the version without the “www”. This is ok, if you’ve been using the non-www version of your site URL all the while. However if you use the www version, then please change your site URL here – and never change it again.

Edit / Redirect in cPanel

cPanel Redirect

First you need to do a test. Which version of your site URL is currently displayed in your browser? What happens when you type in the other version (with or without www) in the browser? Which version do you plan on using?

Does it get redirected automatically? For example if you type in http://gobalakrishnan.com it will automatically redirect to http://www.gobalakrishnan.com – if this is the case for your site then you need to do nothing more.

If it does not automatically redirect, login to your cPanel account and go to the Redirects section, and enter something like this:

Make sure the “Do not redirect www” option is checked, otherwise your site will just be redirecting in an endless loop. However if you prefer to use your domain name without the “www”, the check the option “Only redirect with www” and enter the non-www URL in the text field.

Click on “Add” and your redirect problem will be solved. Test it out by typing in the variations in your browser.

For example, now http://weightlossdetective.com redirects to http://www.weightlossdetective.com

(It may take Google some time to re-index your site and make the required changes)

Remember, making redirects is a fix to the problem. The problem is inconsistency. If you can be rather consistent in your linking then you don;t really need to worry about this.

Lesson: Always use the same version of your domain name when ever leaving comments, or putting links up on other sites.

Google updates PageRank – and GobalaKrishnan.com gets the big zero. For the past three years this blog has started from zero, to PR3 and even PR5 and now it’s back to square one. But how important is PageRank when advertising or selling text links is not your main profit source?

How much does PageRank effect traffic?

My Awstats shows a traffic increase from September 2006 to September 2007, traffic was doubled. But September 2008 (last month), my traffic didn’t change quite much at all. The reduction was probably due to the fact that I hardly posted anything in this blog.

PageRank for me isn’t that important, since I mostly make money from affiliate marketing, selling my own products and from email marketing, all of which do not depend on Google’s unpredictable rankings.

However, I do agree that SEO is important. If you’re using WordPress then it’s a little bit easier as the default installation of WordPress is already quite search engine friendly. You can increase the effectiveness of it by reading up on some practical SEO tips for WordPress.

At the end of the day though, what is really important are the royal readers of this blog, my customers, and all my subscribers. To you guys, thanks for reading GobalaKrishnan.com and coming back to see what’s new even though I’ve had some sort of writer’s block recently. I feel much better now!

Google on the other hand, can **** off.

How do you beat Wikipedia, the world’s number one free online encyclopedia, managed by thousands of passionate (and unpaid) editors, and a darling of Google?

In case you didn’t realize, Wikipedia already ranks top 10 for almost all popular search engine queries and keywords. Wikipedia’s main page has a PR (PageRank) of 8 and the English home page has a PR of 9.

Almost every topic than can be covered, has been covered (or will soon be covered) by this digital encyclopedia of sorts.

The fact is they have more in-depth and complete content compared to your website or blog, and the people writing this content don’t ask for payment. Tying to match Wikipedia in terms of content integrity and completeness is suicide.

So how do you beat a giant like this?

The answer is to NOT become another Wikipedia yourself.

Look at it this way – how many people actually read an encyclopedia?

Are you telling me that just because encyclopedias exist, no one sells a book or magazine or seminar? Of course not.

Encyclopedias suck and the only time you should be looking at an encyclopedia is when you need a point of reference when writing a serious publication or thesis.

So here’s Gobala Krishnan’s 5-step process to beating Wikipedia:

Improve your writing style – You must improve your writing. If your writing is similar to the boring (although concise) Wikipedia text, you’re screwed. Inject your personality and develop your own style of writing. My style of writing is very plain, direct and personal. Some people choose to write in a more poetic / scholarly way. Whatever it is, improve your writing because it will set you apart and create a loyal readership base.

Become more opinionated – People sitting on the fence sooner or later fall over. You either like something or hate it. If you’re neutral, you’re Wikipedia. Don’t become the best encyclopedia around; become the most dramatic blogger or writer. Express your feelings for a certain product or service you’ve tried, even if it means you may lose some affiliate commissions from your honesty. It’s ok if some people hate the way you completely flamed a product or service. In the long run people will still prefer to read what you have to say then read a similar page on Wikipedia.

Stay current and relevant - Read up on your industry, and put yourself in a position where you understand not only the past, but also the present and future of certain topics in your market. Wikipedia can’t beat you if you can (based on your established position of an expert in a focused market) foretell the future and influence other to accept your views.

Perfect your personal brand – You are a brand, market it. Make everything you write, everything you sell, your sites, your design and all of it smell, taste and feel like YOU. If it’s consistent enough, the moment someone looks at a site they would know it’s by you even before they read a line of text. Don’t brand yourself as a know-it-all; brand yourself as an expert in one specific field and people will love you for it.

Don’t put all your eggs in SEO – Search engine optimization is great and all, but it only takes another 9 more Wikipedias to completely dominate the first page of Google. There’s absolutely no way you’re going to beat sites like that in terms of pure SEO. Focus more on social networking, making friends, finding new business partners, and creating more non-SEO-dependent sites. There are other ways to get traffic to your blogs than just search engines!

Basically, what I’m trying to say is that in you cannot beat Wikipedia at it’s own game. But if you change your game, you can kick the shit out of Wikipedia any day, at least as far as your online business is concerned.

How much of your Internet business today is a result of some big company telling you what you can and cannot do?

Let’s see, based on my list of the Top Internet Marketing bullies.

Big Bully Number 1 – Google

Ah, Big G a.k.a God

Job Title: The almighty god of the Internet

Job Scope: Decides which website goes to Internet marketing heaven and which ones go to hell.

Biblical Reference: Came out of nowhere in 1997/98 and crushed all other search gods and goddesses, rules from the kingdom of heaven (Mountain View, California). A few centuries ago, Nostradamus predicted the rise of Big G. It was foretold that Big G will crush the Devil (Microsoft) and that the people will love him. But in time, Big G will assume the role of the devil as well. Spiritual leaders are still analyzing the data on their Windows Vista. It may take some time.

Why you should cover in fear: Big G can crush your life in an instant. Therefore, you should log into Internet marketing forums everyday and see what message Big G’s carrier pigeons (so called SEO experts) bring. You may also find some fake prophets that claim to carry the mandate of Big G. They will tell you they know how to get past the system, and get a free ticket to heaven.

But don’t be fooled, because Big G works in mysterious ways. To please Big G you must get up every morning and check your PageRank. If it is low you must make a human sacrifice. This will please Big G a lot.

While not in heaven, Big G actually runs a big casino business on the Internet. It’s called Google AdWords. You must pay for every minute you spend in this casino, and if you’re smarter than the average patron you can end up making a lot of money. However, for most people the house always wins in the end. A lapse of concentration (or just plain bad luck) in the Adwords casino can cost you a few thousand dollars – or your life.

But Big G is not all about taking your money. He also gives back via his charity foundation, known as Google Adsense. This foundation has helped many people earn an extra 20-50 bucks a month in return for 20 hours of their daily time. Not much, but if you stick to it Big G may find it in his heart to reward you with a better salary and maybe a new car or house.

Either way, it’s always better to spend time in the charity home than in the casino.

Essentially, Wordtracker does two things:

Helps you develop a list of likely keyword phrases. Wordtracker searches other Web site’s KEYWORDS tags and searches a thesaurus, to help you create a preliminary list of keyword phrases.

Based on these keyword phrases, it shows you what people using the Web’s search engines are actually typing into the search engines.

Almost all Internet marketers I know swear by Wordtracker, and the main reason seems to be in it’s accuracy and reliability.

The Wordtracker keyword research tool compares your keyword queries to a database of over 350 million searches, taken mainly from Metacrawler and Dogpile.

You can create and manage as many different projects as you want, and the Wordtracker keyword research tool will allow you to store each project individually, in their project “baskets”.

You can then email or export your keyword research data and save the entire list to your computer. Therefore, you can subscribe to Wordtracker for a single month, and do all your keyword research, then analyze them in an Excel sheet later.

Unlike the Yahoo keyword research tool, Wordtracker will differentiate between singular and plural words. That’s one of the things I learned the hard way. There’s a world of difference between ranking for the singular and plural versions of the same word

Wordtracker also give you other related keywords, some of which you may have never though of. They do this by taking a single keyword or phrase, checking for related keywords in the meta tags of other sites, and adding them to the research project

The screen above is the main function in the Wordtracker keyword research tool. You type in your seed word into the window, select Us or UK keywords (mostly use the US version) and click on Research. The tool then generates an entire list of related keywords for you.

As you can see, there are three columns:

Keyword – your seed keywords as well as all related keywords from the Wordtracker keyword research tool database

Searches – The amount of searches made on the Internet, specifically from Wordtracker’s partner sites. Unlike other keyword research tools, Wordtracker constantly removes old data and add new data every day, that’s why it’s more accurate

Predict – The amount of competing websites out there for that particular search term

Based on these data, the Wordtracker keyword research tool comes up with a statistics they call Keyword Effectiveness Index or KEI. This statistic basically tells you the chances of ranking high in the search engines for that particular search term.

Wordtracker also publishes top-keyword reports that allow you to see what keywords are hot right now. It’s no surprise that most of these keywords are related to porn, so you’ll need to filter them out to see anything meaningful.

According to the Wordtracker keyword research tool FAQ:

We publish two lists. The Long Term list is a compilation of the most popular search phrases over the last couple of months—the most popular phrases out of over 300 million searches. The Short Term list is the most popular phrases over the last 48 hours. The Short Term list includes many items that are temporary, related to recent news stories. But it can also indicate the beginning of new trends that may not be visible in the Long Term reports.

Even if you’re not ready to get into heavy keyword research, it pays to understand your market more by using Wordtracker. You can just take the free trial and work your way around it, and for starters you can then choose the one-month subscription and build your keyword list.

You can sign-up for a free trial of the Wordtracker keyword research tool here.

Other useful keyword research tools to have in your marketing cabinet:

Good Keywords – A keyword research tool that you can download and use for free. It works great and if very user friendly, but for the sake of accuracy my opinion is that you’ll need to pay for a service like Wordtracker above.

Keyword Elite – A keyword research cum keyword analysis tool. It basically automates all the processes I mention in this article, and more that I don’t. It allows you to find related keywords based on one keyword, so you can end up with a massive keyword list using this tool. It also allows you to group keywords together, and mix-n-match between different groups. As I said, this is one heck of a tool to invest in

SEO Elite – This tool only makes sense after you have decided what keywords you want to target, and your overall keyword strategy. It helps you analyze the websites that are ranking for the keywords you target, and how to beat them to the top.

It amazes me how little people really know about keyword research; how hard they try to achieve the impossible, and how fast they give up.

When you think about it, it’s really a vicious cycle.

Their lack of keyword research knowledge leads them to target the wrong keyword, which is either too difficult to achieve, or has too little traffic.

Then, convinced that early retirement is only a stone’s throw away, they work hard to archive top search engine rankings using whatever “new” method the guru’s claim will end their misery fast

Then, after a few months they realize that they will never beat the sites that appear on Google’s first page, they give up, pack up, and leave.

Keyword research is a real tricky thing. It can make or break your Internet home business dreams. If you target keywords that are too competitive, you end up chasing dreams of grandeur that will never materialize. If you target keywords that are too easy to achieve, you’ll end up on the first page of Google and realize that your no. 1 position means squat.

The secret is in finding a balance.

The most profitable online market is not the general market, but the niche market. Therefore when targeting keywords, you must target niche keywords. A niche keyword is usually smaller, two to four words long, and is a subset of the larger general keyword.

Confused? Lets take a step-by-step approach to keyword research using a free toll called the Yahoo Keywords Suggestion Tool. Open up this site in a new browser window so you can do your own hands-on training.

This tool is not 100% accurate when it comes to the numbers, but relatively it gives you and idea of what keywords you should target for your blog or website.

Step 1 : Finding a General Market

You must know the general keyword for your blog or website. If you don’t, bang your head to the wall and ask yourself what you’re doing trying to make money online.

Newsflash: Your website cannot be about everything. It must be about something.

You can’t build a site and say “Oh, my website is about everything that happens in my life, and I don’t want to limit myself by sticking to one topic”.

The truth is that with a few exceptions, such “do-it-all” personal-ranting type of sites are doomed to failure right from the start. It’s ok to have a site where you talk about your everyday life, but there must be a main theme; a main niche; a main keyword for that site.

In the example here, I’m going to choose guitar as my main keyword. Mentally, I am going to tell myself that my blog is about guitars, so no matter how much unrelated stuff I throw into my site, the majority (80% or more) of my blog posts or content is going to be about guitars. That would give my site a theme and a reason for people to visit. If I have too much unrelated stuff to talk about, it’s best to put it into a new site.

Right, now you have a general keyword. But that’s only the beginning.

You cannot possibly dream about getting ranked number 1 in Google or other search engines when someone types in the word guitar. It’s way too competitive. Likewise, never try to rank for a general keywords like health, money, home, insurance etc unless you can meet some / all of the following criteria:

Your site features a revolutionary new idea / software / service that will change the entire industry forever

You are the undisputed, established offline industry leader and you are taking your business online

You are a millionaire can you can spend hundreds of thousands in advertising every month

You can hire a team of smart, highly-trained SEO experts (people who specialize in search engine optimization) to monitor the progress of your site and the ranking for your general keyword.

No? I didn’t think so..

Yet I see some many people try to rank their blogs for general keywords. They add 5-10 new posts a month, have no credibility, spend zilch on advertising and have absolutely nothing revolutionary going on.

It’s just never going to happen.

So, from your general keyword, you need to select a more targeted keyword based on your interests, and your own capability. The size of your keyword should depend on these few things:

How much time can you spend on SEO?

Are yo willing to spend money in advertising, buying links etc?

Are you capable of writing credible information for that topic, or can you find people who can?

Step 2: Find Your Niche Keyword

From the general and utterly useless keyword guitar, I found a niche market I can focus on. I choose electric guitar because I love the electric versions as compared to the acoustic guitars, and I know a great deal about them. It’s also something I’m passionate about and I know that I can make money from.

Note: to see if a niche is profitable see (1) how many affiliate programs you can find and (2) how many people are using Google Adwords to advertise those affiliate programs.

But, this keyword is still highly competitive, and while it’s not impossible to rank highly for this search term, it’s just not feasible if you’re just getting started in your own Internet home business.

Yes, you can listen to your ego, have a gung-ho attitude, and just go for it. You might just make it. But I think, if you’re new to SEO and Internet marketing, this is not a safe bet.

Instead, you need to go one level deeper into the third-tier keyword range. To understand this concept, just count how many clicks you need to make from the original search term guitar till you get to one you can target. If it takes you 4 clicks it means you’re already into the fourth-tier keywords.

Step 3: Find Your Primary Keyword, Secondary Keywords and Long Tail

Now I’ve clicked on guitar > electric guitar > cheap electric guitar.

This is my primary keyword, and is the main keyword I will target on my blog or website.

All the other keywords contained under these keywords, are my secondary keywords.

If you click further from cheap electric guitar or any of the contained keywords you’ll find a lot of lesser keywords, usually ranging from 5 to 500 searches per month, called the long tail keywords.

These long-tail keywords are usually too small to become the main keyword for your blog, but when you add them up they usually become bigger than your primary keyword.

Some of these long-tail keywords cannot be discovered by any keyword research tool, because they are too random. For every keyword someone types into the search engine that is tracked, there is another keyword searched that is either too long or too rare to be tracked. The only way you will discover these long-tail keywords are by looking at your site statistics over time.

For this reason alone, you need an entire master list of long tail keywords. It will be easy to rank for these keywords, but they bring in very little traffic. However, add the amount of traffic each keyword brings, and soon you’ll have a very popular blog.

How to Use Your Keywords Effectively

So now you know which keywords you want to use, but how do you use them? Here’s a simple guide:

Primary Keyword

use it as the main title of your blog, or website

use it as the domain name of your site

whether you realize it or not, his primary keyword will also be used on most of your other blog posts (if you keep to the topic), which will help your blog or site to rank for the primary keyword

Secondary Keyword

use it as an optional tagline for your blog / site

use it as the category name for your site or blog

create new pages (or posts) with your secondary keyword

Long Tail Keywords

use it to create individual posts, for example I create a new post called “cheap gibson les paul electric guitar” which comes under the keyword category “cheap gibson electric guitar”

there are no limits to the sheer number of posts you can create, because there are way too many long tail keywords you can target, each with a tiny search figure every month

you can also create articles with these long-tail keywords, and submit them to article submissions sites like www.myarticlemarketer.com and let the articles rank on those high-authority sites instead, and at the bottom of your article you can have a link back (traffic) to your site

Limitations of Keyword Research

There are some severe limitations to keyword research. The main one is that it tells you what the user typed into the search engine, not what the user is really looking for or the state of mind the user is in.

For example, the user typed in “cheap gibson electric guitar” into the search engine and found your site. But, what is the user thinking when he is reading you page? Is he:

Looking to buy a product – if yes, then your site should be primarily monetized by affiliate programs that pay you per sale. You can find a lot of physical products and digital products that you can sell from your website just by typing in “your keyword + affiliate program” in search engines

Looking for more information – if yes, then your site should be monetized by an advertising program like Google Adsense or Chitika, since the user is more likely to click away for more information rather than buy something

Looking for bargains – if yes, your site should be monetized by Ebay or Auction Ads, which is based on Ebay but works like Adsense

Looking for freebies – if yes, your site should be monetized with CPA (Cost Per Action) programs that you can find on networks like www.shareasale.com or www.linkshare.com

Unfortunately, no one can tell you what works best for your site. The only way to overcome this limitation is to first have an understanding of the market you’re targeting. Keywords are just numbers, they tell you how much search traffic you can get, but they don’t tell you how to turn that traffic into cash.

This is the reason most people fail to make money on the Internet. They devote so much time into SEO tactics that they don’t spend enough time studying the market. These people rejoice when they make $50 from Adsense, when they could have been making $500 a month using other money-making methods.

Advanced Keyword Research Tools

The Yahoo Keyword Suggestion Tool is not something you should swear by. It works to give you and overall understanding of the market and the keyword structure, but if you want to bring your research to the next level, you can (and should) use these tools:

Wordtracker – Gives you better, more accurate keywords using their own keywords database. It also give you an indication of how competitive each keyword is, which is another important metric we didn’t discuss here. You can get a free trial account, and see how it works

Good Keywords – A keyword research tool that you can download and use for free. It works great and if very user friendly, but for the sake of accuracy my opinion is that you’ll need to pay for a service like Wordtracker above.

Keyword Country – Great for finding high-paying AdSense keywords and other niche keywords that is not available with most other software

When I first started this blog, I had no idea what blogging really was about. I just knew that I had this domain name GobalaKrishnan.com and I had to do something with it. I had given up on SEO before after trying for several years on a few different websites. So when I first started the blog, I just wrote and wrote without having to think about keywords etc. I was good to take your mind off SEO for a while..
But after more than a year, this blog already gets 10,000 +/- visitors a month, and the only way forward is to rank well for popular keywords. I realized that most of the top bloggers have good search engine rankings, and although great content does make their readers come back for more, it’s the search engines that provide them with NEW readers every day.

So I’m in the process of identifying relevant keywords for this blog. In fact I’m going to identify at least 3-5 keywords that I would like to rank for. Here’s my strategy:

Use a better permalink structure instead of the current yourdomain.com/2006/04/postname/

Use the Permalinks migration plugin to avoid losing existing web traffic

Use of internal tags with the Ultimate Tag Warrior plugin

Implement a linking campaign similar to John Chow or better

Clean us the CSS / HTML of the current theme

Have more keyword-targeted posts in the future, while preserving the value of content itself

Reorganize posts & categories for targeted keywords

I don’t see a reason why it can’t be done. I’m on to it now
