Making Money When The World Doesn’t Want You To

I just read an interesting post by Darren Rowse. It’s about pushing forward when the world pushes you back. It’s about going against luck or whatever you call it with sheer determination. It’s also about not sitting back when the wind is in your sails.

Excellent post, using the analogy of sailing when the wind stops blowing. Read the full post here.

I think I’ve had a few of those moments as well. I was previously involved in a some autosurf programs, where it was common to make $200 per day. On a particular month I made $1000 from referral commissions alone, from the now extinct 12DailyPro.

That’s when I started to take things for granted. When the whole autosurf thing went bust, I ended up losing tons and being broke for weeks. I learned my lesson.

Darren Rowse sums it up for bloggers – don’t take things for granted, especially Search Engine traffic.

Interview With Alang : Adsense And Online Publishing

AlangFor my first ever podcast (more to come soon) I had the opportunity of doing and interview with Alang.
For a long period of time, Malaysian content network publisher Samsul Zamzuri Abu Bakar (better known as Alang) remained below the radar, building a handful of useful content and community websites with great content powered by free word-of-mouth marketing.

Although Alang is well known within the Internet marketing circle, he maintained a low profile and preferred to work quietly behind the scenes. In this rare interview, Alang reveals some of his strategies on building content-driven community sites that generate 7000 visitors a day, the ups and downs of Google Adsense, as well as valuable insights into making money on the Internet by selling advertising space and directory
listings.

Here are some sites owned by Alang:

Adsense Class in Malaysia by Kidino, Shuth and Farid

That’s where I was last Saturday. Kidino, a fellow Internet marketing friend of mine, spearheaded a seminar on Adsense, called “Kelas Adsense”. Organized by Farid Sulaiman, it was a one-day intensive class on Adsense. My job there as a guest speaker was to give insights on using WordPress to build Adsense niche sites. It’s a summary of things to come with my WordPress Adsense System.

Here are some pictures from Kelas Adsense:

Made For Adsense (MFA) Judgement Day

If your website is Made For Adsense (MFA), then it seems like you’ll have things to worry about very soon. Countless bloggers have warned about the inevitable “judgement day” for MFA sites, the latest one I’ve read is from Gaman.

My advice is to stop building websites with useless content (scraped content) unless you’re willing to run faster and think smarter than Big Daddy Google. You should start building solid niche websites as mentioned in the Adsense SEO Guide by Kidino.

Here’s the full article on Made for Adsense [thanks Al Wee]. [Read more...]

Did Google Steal The “Adsense” Brand?

I don’t remember why exactly I did it, but I’m suprised I didn’t do it before.

Today I typed in www.Adsense.com and expected it to redirect to Google Adsense. Instead I got a webpage by Adsense Consulting with this rather pissed-off statement on their website:

If you think you can get rich quick placing other people’s ads on your site or blog, please contact Google who has taken and used our business name without permission or compensation

Adsense Consulting - The Real Adsense?

They then explained that their website has moved to another URL, probably becasue they were getting too many enquiries from people who wanted to sign-up for the “fake” Adsense :)

Interesting to say the least…

Alternate URL in Your Adsense Code

If you’re an Adsense publisher, you’d know that if Google cannot find relevant ads to display on your website, you’ll see a “Public Service Ad” or PSA for which you don’t get paid.

Google allows you to specify an “alternate URL” instead of allowing PSA ads to appear on your website or blog. To my knowledge, 99% of Adsense publishers don’t have an alternate URL so they just let PSAs run without getting paid for clicks they generate.

Here’s where you can get your own “alternate URL”:

FREE Google AdSense Niche Ideas

Where can you get free ideas on website topic to generate Google AdSense income? No… not from me :)

But Sunny Tan does give you a good example – your local MPH or Borders bookstore! I totally agree, but I’d like to add to the discussion.

You can find good topics in the bookstores, no doubt, but some of those topics may apply to the local market only, and some topics will never be found in MPH or Borders in your area simply becasue there’s no interest in the region.

So I’d like to add that you should also go to Amazon.com and check out the bestselling books and magazines there. You can find other stuff there that may just be profitable AdSense niche ideas :)

Why Does Google Hold Your Adsense Earnings?

If you’re an Adsense publisher, you’ll know that you only get paid when your balance reaches $100.00. The question is, is that normal business sense or dirty tactics by Google?

Erick Schonfeld blogs about Nick Carr’s article that seems to blame Google for setting a $100 payout limit and implying that they use this pool of money to invest and get interest gains. Here’s an excerpt:

“He becomes another Google sharecropper, one of the thousands working the rocky soil of the AdSense plantation. And all the while Google gets to hold onto the poor sap’s meager earnings, using them for its own purposes. In many cases, I’m sure, the less-than-$100 balances never get collected, and Google gets to pocket them for good.”

My 2 1/2 Cents: I think these guys should start their own publisher program or affiliate program to see things from the other side instead of implying foul play. I set a $25 cut-off limit for my affiliates not because I don’t want to pay them, and I’m not using the money for investing either. It’s just common business sense. If I paid out checks for $2.00 I will be (1) attracting the wrong type of people (2) wasting my time (3) running a business risk in case of fraud

Come on guys, making more than $100 a month isn’t really that difficult. Instead of coming up with conspiracy theories you should spend time improving your Adsense income :)
