I Was Mentioned by A Fellow Internet Marketer

My name was mentioned by Kidino in his email, as one of the people he respects :)

Goes something like this:

kidinoYou subscribe to 20 guys and all 20 of them will tell you the EXACT same things, and promote the EXACT same products.

Hmm … maybe you should remove yourself? You know what? You need new heroes to look up to. Somebody who does good promotion, build a good solid business and are not selling hype and smokes.

Let me just name a few people that have my respect now days. And you may not even know some of these people. (in no particular order)

- Yaro Starak
- Lynn Terry
- Dan Lok
- Craig Garber
- Craig Perrine
- Joe Vitale
- Darren Rowse
- Ron Ruiz
- Ansel Gough
- Jay Abraham
- Tim Phelan
- Gobala Krishnan
- Alex Mandossian
- Dan Kennedy
- Willie Crawford
- Patrick O’keefe

Well … these are my heroes. You can have a set of others if you want. These people don’t hype things up. They don’t jump on all product launches out there. But they all make good money …

Thanks Kidino, but the feeling is mutual really. I’ve learned a lot about email marketing from you too in the past, and I still owe you a big favor for going the extra mile and helping me (for free) in my previous viral membership site project.

WordPress Vs Joomla as a CMS

I love WordPress, I honestly do. I have tried Mambo and Jomla in the past but never got to using it extensively. The truth is even with WordPress, my limited technical knowledge presented a high wall to climb, but I eventually got it.

But how popular is WordPress, compared to other CMS (Content Management System) like Joomla and Mambo? Some people spit at WordPress and swear by Joomla, which is “the new Mambo”. While they are all CMS, the way each is used is very different.

My friend Kidino did a study using Google trends, and it sure as hell looks like Joomla is starting to gain incredible popularity.

Right, I am using WordPress for this blog. It’s a great blog software. And for Joomla, it’s more towards portals and content management. Even so, there are people use WordPress for link directories, convert them into full-fledge content management, and more.

Market Gaps vs Market in The Gap

If you want to sell almost any kind of product on the Internet, or even start your own blog and make money off advertising, you must first find a market. Most gurus recommend that you find a niche market, but I’d recommend that (if possible) you find a market gap instead and sell in uncontested market space.

Characteristics of a market gap:

  1. A group of people with unique needs
  2. No products or services to match that need
  3. No competitors in the market
  4. No good source of information on the market
  5. May or may not be profitable

A market gap can occur in the general market or in contained niche markets. For some reason or another, there will be small gaps in any market that is not filled by any other businesses. Sometimes a market gap can become so profitable that it can become a niche market in itself when several businesses enter the market, and the market size itself grows substantially.

For example, several years ago there was only guitars for right-handed guitar players, until someone decided to fill the market gap for left-handed guitarists as well. For years, all recipe books did not consider the health of it’s readers, until someone decided to write a new recipe book for low-carb cooking, and a whole new niche market was born. Women have been the only ones seeking facial treatments, until the 21st century man decided he wants some of the good stuff as well, and hence a new market is born from an overseen market gap.

But trying to sell products or services in the market gap is dangerous.

Sometimes, there’s a perfectly good reason why a market gaps exists in the first place – because people in that gap just don’t want the product and services offered! Going with the analogy above, during post world war decades men didn’t care about their skin or overall physical appearances. So if you tried to sell men’s beauty products in 1947 you would have been the laughing stock of a country. If you sold cars you would have been a millionaire!

But same product, same concept, applied in a different era can take off successfully. So, there needs to be a market in the gap. Trying to exploit a market gap without first researching if there is a market IN that gap is suicide.

Still with me?

A lot of these concepts can be learned from the Stephen Pierce audio interview on niche marketing. Stephen Pierce approached the general investing market with an innovative product and made millions, so he really knows what he’s talking about.

If you’re ready, let get a little deeper into the topic of Market Gaps Vs Market in The Gap with my (ahem) beautiful diagram:

market-gaps

Here’s how you can understand my beautiful diagram:

  1. Every general market has it’s attached niche markets.
  2. Some niche markets are bigger than others.
  3. In both the general market and niche markets, there is bound to be market gaps.
  4. In the general market, market gaps can be large, as large as other niche markets. Once this market gap is exploited, it can spin off as a new niche market.
  5. In the niche market, there are also market gaps. But these gaps tend to so small, that there is not enough demand in it to sustain a new product or business.

The point of the diagram is this:

  1. You can enter the general market, which is big but competitive.
  2. You can also enter the niche markets, which are smaller but still profitable due to lesser competition
  3. You can also enter two or three different niche markets and slowly make your way to the general market, but this is more of a long term strategy
  4. You can choose to enter the market gaps in niche markets, but these are so small there might mot be a market in the gap. 10 people don’t make a market for any serious people, right?
  5. The most profitable strategy, is to enter a market gap in the general market. This gap tends to be as large as a niche market and virtually no competitors
  6. This market gap, which has a market in the gap, will eventually become a niche market by itself as other people start to exploit it. In this new niche market, you are and will always be the leader!

That being said, sometimes market gaps are absolutely useless until the time is right. Some people call exploiting market gaps as taking the first mover advantage.

But it’s not easy to be a first mover. Most first movers are faced with a soon-to-be-niche market that is not prepared to buy just yet. Some first movers pour so much money into the market gap to develop the market to the point where it becomes a profitable niche, but then new competitors enter and move faster. Since they are not heavily in debt as the first mover, they can roll out products faster and in most cases take the market lead.

Take the VoIP (Voice Over IP) market for example, which was a market gap in the telecommunications market. Even though it was possible to make calls over the Internet, for a long time people just weren’t ready for it yet. And countless innovative companies came and went before there was a real market in the gap. Now, Voip is a highly profitable niche market.

The good news is that if you find a market gap, and there is substantial market in the gap, you can become filthy rich.

If you can’t find a solid market gap with a market in the gap, go for the newest niche market. A new niche market is a market gap that has already been exploited and proven to be profitable, but there are still very few competitors in the market which means more growth for your own business.

I strongly recommend Winning Your Niche for some mind-boggling information on niche marketing, market gaps, and creating profitable products to win in a big way.

My First Aweber Affiliate Program Commission Check

aweber-check1.jpg

I got my first Aweber affiliate commission check in the mail today, for $21.54. This brings to my attention a very important message for all affiliate marketers out there – not all affiliate products are created equal!

Some products are always more difficult to sell than others.

My Aweber checks says it all. $21.54 is not bad considering it’s an additional stream of residual income, but considering it’s a tool that most people reading this blog will eventually need, it’s quite lame. I expected to make more sales for the Aweber affiliate program considering that it’s an excellent product, but as I said not all affiliate programs are created equal.

My conversion for the Aweber affiliate program is less than 0.8%. Most of my other products (even some affiliate products) convert at more than 3%.

I started promoting Aweber early 2006 when I switched to them and was extremely satisfied with their service. Here’s a few reasons I can think of to explain my low Aweber commissions:

  • Most of my blog readers already have it
  • Most of my blog readers are using a similar competitive product
  • Most of my blog readers are reluctant to invest in it

From my experience, is extremely difficult to promote these products on the front-end as an affiliate:

  • Recurring Memberships – Recurring payment programs are always more difficult to sell than one-time payment products. Don’t ask me why, that’s just the way it is!
  • Backend / Support Systems – Things like an autoresponder, shopping cart system, support system etc are more difficult to sell because people have switching costs and they may already be using a similar program.
  • Business Opportunity / MLM – People tend to be more skeptical about MLM opportunities. Plus, each sign-up you make for an MLM program pays much less because of the commissions that need to be paid to your upline.
  • $7 Products – It’s not difficult to sell unless you’re using paid advertising, because the income may exceed the expenditure. Seven dollars is not a whole lot of margin to play around with. The exception is if it’s YOUR product, and the One Time Offer converts well. (Do the maths: at $7 you can only afford 70 clicks @ 10 cents per click before your campaign become unprofitable)

Products like the one I mention above should not be promoted front-end, but they do make a great affiliate products for back-end profits. In other words, don’t do an Adwords campaign or other paid advertising on them. Instead, built your list or blog, or sell your own product and then promote them to your existing customers.

A repeat blog visitor costs you nothing. An email sent to your list is free.

It’s a smarter affiliate marketing strategy!

WordPress Cloner Plugin To Manage Multiple Blogs

wp-cloner“CTRL+C for your WordPress Blog” – I love that tagline!

If you have multiple WordPress blogs, you’d probably know by now that managing all of them at a time can be a total pain in the ass.

The headache comes when you need to install a new theme or plugin to all your blogs. It becomes even harder if those themes or plugins need to be modified or adjusted in a certain way.

WP Cloner (not to be confused with “WordPress Cloner” by Mike Filsaime) is software from Anthony Ellis that allows you to manage multiple WordPress blogs by “cloning” one blog’s setting to an unlimited amount of other blogs.

Anthony Ellis is also responsible for several innovative WordPress hacks and plugins, including Auto Social Poster that allows you to submit links to multiple social bookmarking sites automatically.

WP Cloner is a WordPress plugin, and installing it is as easy as any other WordPress plugin. It’s obviously a labor of love, and I encountered no weird error message throughout my process of using it.

What you need to do is:

  1. Install WP Cloner on the source blog
  2. Enter the admin login and password for all your other blogs
  3. Select what you want to copy, and click on “Start”
  4. The cloning report will be emailed to you
  5. Repeat again as much as necessary!

You can choose to copy:

  • Your plugins and it’s settings / data
  • Your WordPress themes
  • Your permalinks structure & general settings
  • Any static pages on your site, for example you “Contact Us” page
  • Your categories, posts and comments
  • Your blogroll and links
  • Your admin username / data

WARNING: If you’ve previously modified your WordPress themes for individual blogs, make sure you back it all up as you may overwrite them when using the Wp Cloner plugin.

There are a few other tools in the market to manage multiple WordPress blog, but these require you to upload / manage multiple sites via an admin interface. In fact Anthony Ellis has a tool called Mass Account Manager that you can also use to maintain multiple Cpanels and mass upload files to your server.

WP Cloner is $127 and comes with an unlimited blog license. This means that you can install the plugin on as many blogs as you own without having to purchase additional licenses.

It’s extremely useful for anyone with a small to medium sized blog network, but if you have just a few WordPress blogs this may not be absolutely vital for you

Jonathan Leger Publishes a Novel?

It’s titled Fleur de Lis, and yes, it’s published by the same Internet marketer that gave you Instant Article Wizard and 3-Way Links.

Here’s what Jon wrote in his email:

I am proud to say that I finished the novel, and on-time at that.  I’ve got my proof copy laying on my desk right now, and let me tell you: the feeling I get from seeing it in printed form right in front of me is fantastic.

It’s the indescribable feeling of having a dream come true.

It’s a murder-mystery-conspiracy novel (my wife’s favorite kind, of course).

Here’s the synopsis of the book:

“Small town private investigator Natasha Rousseau takes
her first major case. A grieving mother does not believe
the police when they tell her that her son has committed
suicide. What Natasha discovers in her investigation is
unbelievable: dark forces that wield extorted power over
the small, historic town of Natchitoches, Louisiana.

“In a desperate attempt to discover the identity of the
hand that pulls the puppet’s strings, Natasha finds her
life, and that of her only friend, in grave danger. Can
she discover the source and free the town from its bondage
in time to stop the powers that be from executing their
ultimate sinister plan? Or will she fail, becoming just
another victim in the wake of the organization’s bloody
history …”

The title of the novel is “Fleur De Lis”, and I have had 100 first-edition copies printed.  I will have a second edition printed in larger numbers in a few weeks, but if you’re interested in a genuine first edition, here’s your chance.
To see the cover, or purchase one of the remaining 96 copies of the first edition (the first four went to a relative), go to: http://fleurdelisnovel.com/

If you purchase a copy, please allow up to 14 days for delivery, as I will be personally packing and shipping each one of the first-editions. And remember, Gobala: whatever your dreams are, with the right motivation and a goal-oriented deadline, you WILL see your dreams come true.

All I can say is WOW.

Top 10 "Must Have" Internet Business Software for 2007

I would be completely lost and burnt out by now if not for my strong belief in the usage of software to automate my Internet business, or just make it a little bit easier.

Allow me to list 10 of such, that has helped me in the first half of 2007:

  1. Aweber ($17 / month) – At the moment, this is the ONLY autoresponder and email management software I use. If you want to build a big mailing list, forget DIY scripts and just Aweber. You can’t go wrong within this software.
  2. GoTryThis ($47) – I use this to track ALL my affiliate marketing activities. I don’t send out a direct link links anymore since I got GTT Black Hat. The White Hat version is more than enough for simple affiliate marketing tasks.
  3. WordPress (Free) – Powers almost all my blogs. Although it was sort of difficult to use in the past, with the latest update things just got a whole lot easier.
  4. Amember ($147) – Membership site software, which I use in Internet Millionaires Club – I like this so much I have one spare license.
  5. Feedburner (Free) – I have no idea how to create an RSS feed, or how to manage on. All I know if where to find it, and I leave the rest to Feedburner.
  6. Kayako ($29/month) – At the point where I was getting 20-40 emails a day, I invested in Kayako and it has been one of my best investments so far. It’s highly scalable and can accommodate as my staff / products / websites as you want.
  7. Instant Article Wizard ($67) – I’ve written some pretty impressive articles on topics I know nothing about using this nifty software. I’ve even showed in to my friend who write for a living (newspapers and magazines), and they got one as well. It really makes article writing and research easy.
  8. ASK Database ($19/month) – My very first product is a result of the ASK database, which is a survey tool and survey search engine. It’s extremely useful for understanding the needs and lingo of a market. Once you know that, you can turn that knowledge into a product or as content for your blog.
  9. Pamela Skype Recorder ($17) – I use this software to record calls on Skype, and I’ve create a handful of successful audio interview products with it. Again I’m not a tech guy so I really appreciate software that makes it easy for me to mess with technology.
  10. SEO Elite ($247) – The only keyword research cum SEO software that I have, and use. The cost was hard for me to swallow at first, but I got over that block eventually. SEO Elite is really powerful, and yes I know that different people have different things to say about SEO Elite, but I’m pretty satisfied.

Newbies By Choice

I’ve had just about enough of this “I’m a newbie poor me…” bullshit. It’s just an excuse for not taking action. You justify the situation by remaining in the comfort zone, and hiding behind the fact that you’re “new”.

It’s easier to do nothing. It’s safer to not have to deal with risk and failure. A lot of people choose this path – it’s called a JOB – and there’s absolutely nothing with having a job.

But if you’re in business for yourself, you’ve got to stop giving excuses like the ones you gave your bosses when you came up short.

How many years do you have to be a newbie before you start making money online? One year? Five? Or six months?

The fact is most of the people saying they are newbies simply have no guts to do anything. So they just buy products that teach you how to make money online, read them, and then condemn them. But they never implement the strategies in the product to actually do something.

They never get out of the learning stage and into the action stage.

Most of them eventually quit.

I think I’m going to come up with a new term for this. I’m going to call them “newbies by choice”

If you ask me, all it takes is one ebook, seminar or personal coaching session to give you a jump start. Or if you have a lot of time to spare, just read websites and go by trial-and-error. Then, if you really wanted to do it, you will.

Otherwise, you’ll just join the rank of newbies by choice, and there are so many of these lurking around waiting to pounce at those who are actually moving forward..
