Death of The Yahoo / Overture Keyword Suggestion Tool

Andy Beal reported that Yahoo Search Marketing is no longer supporting it’s keyword tool, known to many Internet marketers still as the Overture Keyword Suggestion Tool.

The tools will be replaced by Yahoo’s new Sponsored Search tool, which I think is only available to active advertisers. However, Yahoo will soon update the keyword data to include search results beginning January 2007, and they will continue to update it from time-to-time. I doubt, however, that the tool will continue to remain an accurate gauge for keyword-based marketing research.

It other words, you may be actually looking at outdated data is you’re still using the Keyword Suggestion tool. A few better alternatives:

Take note that all other tools based solely on the Keyword Suggestion tool will also be less effective.

Honestly, Overture had big flaws anyway

When my site ranked #4 for secure email I thought I got a big jump (2000 users more), but nothing happened!

Use Google’s Adwords Tool instead. They dont give you numbers but an overall estimate like “Low, Medium High”
