Plugin: Customise Your WordPress Dashboard's RSS

Ever looked at the default WordPress dashboard RSS and wished you could put something else there? Well, thanks to Brian Gilham’s plugin “Own the Feed” you can. Originally designed to allow users to display the 9rules feeds on their dashboard, the plugin has been taken one step further to completely customise your dashboard.

Once activated, any feed can be selected to be shown, or no feed at all can be shown. 99% of feeds should work, but the description does mention that some may not.

Swiss Cash Meeting In Palace of The Golden Horses?

Is Swiss Cash still alive and kicking, or is it just a facade before the fall?

I have talked about Swiss Cash before, and the post has got so many comments it’s probably the most popular blog post right now. And quite frankly, I’m sick and tired talking about Swiss Cash.

Then yesterday someone sent me an email about Swiss Cash again. This time apparently to claim that they just had their meeting cum dinner with a Mr B.B Ng.

A quote from the email:

The long anticipated grand dinner with Marketing director Mr. BB Ng. was held executively in the Palace of Golden Horses Hotel on the 10th Sept 2006.

There were some 30 over tables so estimated 300+ investers attending. Dinner started late and the speech by Mr. BB commenced only after dinner. His speech was short which primarily emphasized that the company is growing healthly as swisscash is finding its way to many countries in Asia including Indonesia, Taiwan, India, China and many others.

Personal questions by individuals where brought by investors to him only after his speech. to summarize some points that he highlighted during his off-stage Q&A, they are as follows..

I didn’t want to bother with this information at first, but it seems like the site has some audio FAQ sessions with rare information from the top guns in Swiss Cash.

It also has some pictures you may want to see.

ATTENTION: Just because I’m sharing this doesnt mean I want to try swisscash, so don’t send me an email asking me how to sign-up for SwissCash etc. Don’t send me an email asking if I’m interested to join it either. I also have no relations or even know the website owner, so please read & download at your own risk.

Here’s the page: http://www.netbizsolutions.com/swisscash.html

Two Column Modular Theme

Spiffy is a two column, blue and green theme with a difference. Not only does it support widgets, but has support for skins and has promised some new skins to come soon. This theme is completely ideal for new bloggers who don’t know about themes but still want to have a chance at rearranging and organising the look of their blog.

Not just that, but the theme also looks fantastic. It’s sections are all separate boxes with rounded corners and Web 2.0 gradient titles. Spiffy also has optional support for Ultimate Tag Warrior but don’t worry if you don’t know what that is, it won’t break the theme if you don’t use it.

Kevin Rose Started Digg From Elance?

Kevin RoseCan someone actually go to Elance, hire a programmer, and make a couple of million bucks?

Yes they can, according to Elance. Here’s the quote on their site:

“In 2003, Kevin had a big idea. He came to Elance to post a project and look for a PHP programmer, selected Owen Byrne… and worked with him to build the initial product. Eventually, Owen joined Digg full-time.”

You can read the full post here.

Digg.com is one of the most trafficked sites on the Internet. It’s a social news site that depends on it’s users to vote or “digg” for the news they like, and also “bury” those they don’t.

If your post does to make it to Digg’s front page, you’ll allegedly get an extreme boost of web traffic.

PayPerPost Announces New Disclosure Policy

PayPerPostWhat happens when a new idea shakes up the entire marketplace?

It gets criticized and condemned.

Such is the case of PayPerPost, a service that provides an opportunity to both bloggers and advertisers to make the most out of the blogosphere. Advertisers pay bloggers to post reviews and snippets about their product on their blogs. A blogger may choose which “opportunities” he want to post about.

The cost of a post is determined by the market rate. Better bloggers are more expensive to get. However, they usually do a btter job at blogging and generally have a wider audience.

However, they has been an incresing amount of criticism heaped on PayPerPost, with several bloogers concerned that the service will destroy elements of truth in the blogosphere. Even Matt, the founder of WordPress was quick to voice out his distaste for such activity.

But, the bloggers need to get paid, and they want to get paid immediately. PayPerPost is exactly what most bloggers have been looking for.

Disclosure PolicyToday PayPerPost announced a solution. They are encouraging their bloggers to display a Disclosure Policy on their blogs to solve any questions of honesty and create better transparency for everyone.

You can use their “Generate Policy” button to generate your own disclosure policy. If you’re blogging for PayPerPost, you’ll need to indicate that you get paid for some of the posts on your blog. This is faily easy to do with their step-by-step generator.

Generate your plocy now at: www.DisclosurePolicy.org

This blog is currently being redesigned, so once that’s done I’ll make sure to include a disclosure policy as well, although I don’t blog for PayPerPost.

Getting One-Way Backlinks to Your Blog

Getting one-way links to your blog will help you get better search engine rankings. The only problem is not many people would want to link back to you if your site is new or does not attract them enough for a move like that.

Most of the time, they either ask for a link back or ignore you completely.

One of the best ways I’ve discovered is by getting your website or blog listed in directories first. For my recent project, I used both directory listing and text link ads, with some great content, a bit of SEO and some seriously dedicated affiliates.

I was amazed by the results:

Alexa

My site’s Alexa rankings just dipped below 10,000 yesterday. I believe I can totally smoke BloggingPro soon:)

Problogger however would be an entirely different matter, but I’m hoping to get quite close to that. Of course Darren Rowse has had a massive headstart in blogging.

So as I was saying, getting backlinks are important. In today’s reality, you’ll probably have to pay for directory listings. The good news is that if you look hard enough, you can get some pretty good listings for cheap.

Till end of this year, if you have a WordPress blog you can get cheap listings on my new directory:

http://directory.easywordpress.com

You can get a featured link, which will guarantee that your site stays on top of all the other sites that dont. Your site will also be rotated as “Blog of The Day” on the main page (coming soon)

If you’re a customer for WAS you’ll get a free premium link, otherwise it costs just $10 a year. When the full features are up I will increase it to $10 a month, so get some links back to your blog now.

I’m Moving to a New Home

After my current home got destroyed by termites and kids screaming at the swimming pool at 9.00am in the morning when I’m having my best sleep, I decide to move to a new home.

So if my responses are a bit slow this week, please excuse me. There’s a LOT that needs to be done, including transferring my phone line and Internet account to my new home.

I’ll post pictures when it’s done :)

I was going around literally begging shopowners for empty boxes to put all my stuff, when divine intervention (Google) solved my problem instantly!

I found a company selling moving boxes, and it’s quite near my current place: TheBoxCompany.com.my

The Box Company

I’ll probably drop by tomorrow moring on my way to post my Clickbank check in FedEx. I’ll get a bunch of Small sized boxes since I don’t have much stuff anyways :)

Then I’ll probably tell the owner he’s been conned to placing Adwords ads. It’s probably a classic example of a company paying money to so called “Internet specialists” who just take advantage of their lack of PPC advertising knowledge.

Where’s the lead capture page? Even if they don’t accept online payments, can’t they at least get a name and phone number they can call back and get orders from?

He’s losing money as the website sucks and there’s no clear sales process. Even if 10% of his clients actually end up buying, he’s probably still losing money. When I expand my company to offer Internet marketing services next year, the Internet specialist nadling this company’s advertising will be out of business…

Then again, if I DO buy from him won’t that make me wrong?

Maybe.

Maybe I’m the exception to the rule. What do you think?

Hemingway Based Green and Grey Theme

4u is based very much on Hemingway, with a few cosmetic changes; such as the green accent colour and darker header and footer. The content is laid out similarly the same as Hemingway, with the categories, recently and about sections at the bottom. The navigation is a green bar below the header and the sidebar contains a calendar and flickr RSS pictures.

The theme has gravatar1.0 support and benefits from all the goodness of the Hemingway options pages. However if you have ever used another Hemingway based theme before it does need to be installed before this one will work correctly.

The Potential of Myspace

NST just published an article today on two of the biggest and most outrageous Internet star-ups that we bought up for billions by media and Internet giants.

The first is YouTube, a popular online video-sharing website that was bought over by Google recently for 6 billion US dollars. The seocnd, which is really the more interesting site called MySpace, was also bought up by media giant NewsMedia for US 2 billion.

I contributed my thoughts in the NST interview as to why Myspace is so popular today not only as a social networking site, but also a place to market your online business.

Myspace-NST.jpg

Although it was not well-explained in the article, which I felt at times tried to cover too much (MySpace and YouTube at the same time), there’s a lot of potential in Myspace for marketing your business, for free or a small fee.

The NST article (page 30) includes case studies of Aby Huraira Othman’s Suicidal Clothing brand being sold on Myspace, which is worth a read.

If you want to learn more about MySpace marketing, I stongly suggest that you listen to this interview with Matthew Sherbone, or try his guide called Myspace Cash Machine.

With over 100,000,000 registerd users, you can definately carve out a niche in Myspace for any type of business. I will be using Myspace as an avenue to sell more CDs of my band (picture) when we’re finally done with our EP.

Free Buttons for your Blog

Buttonator is a completely free Drag and Drop button making service. There are loads of button background to choose from, you can edit the text on the button, the colour, font and size of the text and the background that the button sits on, and then download the button as a .gif format for use on your site.

Most of the buttons are white, grey blue or green, but there are a few there for other colour schemes. A lot of them use the popular Web 2.0 gradient style and rounded corners. Accounts can also be created for you to style your own buttons and store and edit designs for those times you don’t have Photoshop on you, but need a quick and easy button.
