WordPress Help in Your Language

There aren’t enough WordPress help sites in various languages, but there are a few. The number of supported languages for WordPress and wordpress.com users is slowly rising, but what good is that if there is no support for when things go wrong?

This article gives an ever changing and growing list of support sites and forums in many different languages, including Arabic, Chinese, Russian and many more. Also, if you can speak fluently in both English and another language, and know WordPress inside out, then there is a shortage of volunteers for WordPress support. The article gives more information on how you can help out.

Feedvertising

Feedvertising Feedvertising is the new beta version of Text Link Ads.com’s feed advertising. Feedvertising makes advertising in feeds easier, especially for WordPress users, by displaying ads in your RSS feeds as well as your blog. Not only that, but you can also reserve spots to highlight your own links and sites.

Though a lot of people may not want to give regular readers who subscribe to the blog the inconvenience of ads, it could be useful for blog marketing and promenent adsense users.

WordPress Editor Doesn't Support Safari

Bad news for Safari users: no one know yet how long it will take before Safari (default browser in Mac) will support the editors used in WordPress. As a Safari user myself, it find it better than Firefox, faster and easier to use too.

Unfortunately, this is all I get with the Visual Rich Editor turned on:
Wordpress Editor in Safari

According to the WordPress support forums:

In Safari, the WYSIWYG editor and Quicktag buttons will function, but not as intended. Some earlier builds of the WYSIWYG editor for WordPress v1.6/2.0 even caused Safari to crash whenever the editor was loaded. This is due to a bug in Safari’s javascript support, not WordPress. Since the WordPress developers have no way of correcting this, they have chosen to disable the WYSIWYG editor and Quicktag buttons for Safari users

The editors will (hopefully) work in the next versionn of safari. Right now I’m in a fix – I browse the Internet with Safari, and switch to Firefox when I need to blog :)

… and that sucks!

Where is the Secret of Life?

Here’s the next few lines from the comic (according to me):

British Dude: Yes I did. All I found was splogs and irrelevant content.

Guru of Gurus: Ok. Have a seat cos it’s going to take a while. My RSS To Blog needs a TextPod.

Lies About Being Number 1 in Google

This especially goes out to anyone new in Internet marketing.

(thanks James)

You will find some people out there that take advantage of the fact that you know nothing about Internet marketing, and they will generally feed you these lies:

Lie: I can guarantee you the number one ranking in Google.
Fact: No one can guarantee a top 10 in Google or any other search engine, unless it’s for a unique term that no one is searching for (read more below)

Lie: World’s number one in blah blah blah “as ranked” by Google
Fact: Google does not rank or recommend anyone. They are a search engine. Even if you are number 1 in Google for a search term, it doesn’t mean that they rank you or your company as the best. It just means you have the number 1 position in the search engine.

Here’s one such claim of being number 1 in Google: [Read more...]

The Setback of Having a WordPress.com Blog

WordPress.com, the hosted version of the WordPress software, has it’s pros and cons.

The most obvious being the possibility of having your blog terminated due to violation of terms of service.

I actually know this person, and her blog didn’t seem to have any content that may violate WordPress T&C. Then again, I havent been able to contact her on this matter..

If you content is “questionable” or if you want to have advanced monetization options including Adsense, get your own web hosting and install WP on your own server.

Beat Plagarists With a Digital Fingerprint

According to State of the Blogosphere, 2006, seventy percent of all blog postings are spam. Usings RSS feeds and WordPress plugins, spammers can very easily repost other blogs to earn themselves money from ads, increase their Pageranking or get more visitors.

The Digital Fingerprint plugin allows users to insert a unique “Digital fingerprint” into their blogs, which can be searched for using Google, MSN or Yahoo! search, integrated into the plugin for easy searching, to find any stolen blog material.

Also included in the plugin is tips, links and resources to help combat the spam, should you come across any plagarised material, and you might also want to take a look at this article; “What should you do when you’ve found a plagarist?”

Unusual Theme with Content in Scrolling Boxes

Scroller isn’t your average theme. In fact, it’s hard to be described without actually seeing it. It comes in two versions: light blue, or dark brown, both of which work well and create interesting, unorthodox blog layouts.

The theme consists of four boxes with scrollbars, one for the blog entry or main screen, one with the comments in, one for category archives, pages and an about section and one which on the test site contains flickr thumbnails and a meta section. The seperate sections of each box can be switched with attractive and easy to use tabs over the boxes.

Scroller is Standards compliant for XHTML 1.0 Transitional and works in both Firefox and IE.
