Pictures From Asian Internet Marketing School

It still can’t believe it’s over so fast. Before I can say “Asian Internet Marketing School” the event was over, and now Alex and Armand are probably in Singapore.

Picture of me and Armand Morin.

Let me tell you, Armand is a great guy. Looking at him, I can’t help but feel like he sees making money on the Internet as something very simple. Just like how Neo started seeing the core code structures of the Matrix when he started to believe that he’s “The One”. While having a personal chat with Armand, he passed me a couple of million-dollar ideas which I am working on right now.

Armand even handed me a challenge. He said that if I can produce a certain product before he does, he’ll “consider” promoting it for me. Well, I’m working on it right now Armand, and I am taking that challenge!

By the way, thank for reading my blog, and giving me comments about my other website. I really appreciate everything you’ve done. If you’re reading this I really hope you change you mind and come over to Kuala Lumpur again next year.

Here’s a picture of me and Alex Mandossian.

I admire the way he speaks, and his principles on taking action. I have listened to that MP3 more than 20 times now (www.ActionSecrets.com). I also learned a lot of teleseminar tactics but to be fair, they didn’t cover much. In fact I learned more listening to the free MP3 interview by Jim Edwards. Alex had tremendous passion for what he does, and it shows clearly.

Understanding Resell Rights Terminology

Offering Resell Rights or Master Resell Rights is a trend in Internet marketing today. However, just because you bought a product with resell rights included may not always mean you can sell the rights as part of the product.

Here are the basics of resell rights:

resell rights diagram

Here’s the explanation:

  1. Owner / publisher – Creator of the product, who can choose to give away rights to customers. The owner may also choose to sell directly from his website.
  2. Resell Rights - If you secured the resell rights from the owner, you may sell the product to an end customer only.
  3. Master Resell Rights – If you secured the master resell rights from the owner, you may (1) sell the product only (2) sell the Resale Rights only (3) sell both. You cannot, however, sell the Master Resell Rights to anyone..
  4. Generic Resell Rights – Anyone who buys the product directly from the owner can choose resell the product. In this case, the rights are usually inseperable from the product itself.

My Girlfriend’s Going For An Interview

Obviously, this post has nothing to do with home-based business or Internet entrepreneurship. It has to do with (1) my personal life (2) mistakes people make in interviews

I’ll start with the second one. Most people sell themselves cheap at interviews, to the point where they sound desperate. You hear stuff like:

“I am willing to work long hours and overtime”

“I don’t mind getting a lower salary as long as I like my job”

“I have worked for XXX company, I have been pre-programmed to work hard like a machine without thinking or questioning, and now I am ready to be your slave…”

Ok, the third one is exaggerated, but it does speak a point. The majority of job seekers compromise too much, and then when they are required to do exactly what they promised they complain and start backstabbing each other. I did it once too.

Here’s a better way, I feel – Speak clearly what YOU want from the company, how much YOU think your time there is worth, and leave the ball in their court. If the company believes in your talent, and feel they need you, they will hire you. If they are looking for a robot, you won’t get the call.

To me it’s as simple as that. Selling yourself cheap isn’t always the best thing to do.

Now to the second part, about my girlfriend :) [Read more...]

Chinese Bloggers To Take Over The World?

I quote from a recent Reuters report:

“China is the world’s second-largest Internet market after the United States with more than 110 million users.”

“The number of Chinese bloggers is expected to hit 60 million by the end of this year..”

Here’s a picture on an Internet cafe in China:

Ok, these guys look serious enough to me. Brighly lit room, tons of fully-equipped PCs – yup it looks like they are at work to conquer the world.

Come to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Here’s what our Internet cafes are about – dark, noisy rooms, with under-aged kids playing video games. In fact, most Internet cafes in Malaysia don’t even have Microsoft Office / Adobe PDF installed.

All you’ll find is tons of computer games. It’s the new-age arcade, without an age limit.

Talking About Thinking Outside The Box

I was in Starbucks today, surfing the net and updating my sites, when something happened.

A caucasian woman (in her early 30s) came up to my table, left a green tribal motif keychain, and walked away. There was a laminated card together with the striking keychain. Suprised, I picked it up and read the card. Here’s what it said:

“I am unfortunately deaf and dumb. If you’re feeling kind today, I hope you can share the joy and spare just RM5.00 for this unique keychain”.

I thought to myself…WOW. [Read more...]

The New Game of Google AdWords

When I first started using AdWords (early 2003) if was magic. For $0.05 a click, I can prmote any affiliate program I wanted and make a profit.

However by end of 2004 “The AdWords Game” had changed dramatically. There was no longer such a a thing as cheap clicks anymore, and it became near impossible to make a profit promoting affiliate programs that paid below $20 in commissions (in most niches).

The new game, it seems, is all about site conversion for upfront cash. I remember asking Patric, and he told me that you just can’t use AdWords to build traffic to a free site anymore (this includes trying to build an opt-in list to a free ezine). Instead, you have to be selling something up-front so that you can cover your cost, and determine your conversion rate.

Who better to talk about converting AdWords clicks other than Mr AdWords himself, Perry Marshall.
For my most recent ad campaign, I was selling my own product (I gave up promoting other people’s ebook with PPC) and the results is a 8% conversion rate. The ratio of dollar spent : dollar earned is almost 1:9. In other words, the Return on Investment (ROI) is 900% – I know it sounds ridiculous, but it’s not uncommon.

If you want to master AdWords, there’s no better way than to invest in The Definitive Guide to Google AdWords. The new version is updated to keep up with the recent changes in the program.

The Tragedy of Life – By Gobala Krishnan

The Tragedy of Life
Copyright © 2006 Gobala Krishnan

To quote Albert Schweitzer- “The tragedy of life is what dies inside a man while he lives”. I think he hit this one right on the spot, right where it hurts.

How many people really live life to the fullest? How many people really achieve the best they can, and fulfill their purpose? For each who does, there’s a thousand who never will. If killing your own dreams and god-given talents were a crime, the streets would be empty.

My personal goal in life is not to achieve perfection, but to be the best that I can be. My personal goal in life is not to chase impossible dreams, but to have one that I can live for. The sad part is that in my first three years of working as an employee, chasing the promotion that would never come, and the facade of importance and significance that consumed my better judgement, I let a part of me suffocate almost to the point of death.

To the benefit of the reader – you – all I can offer is my personal testimonial, looking back at the empty years to see all that I did wrong, and all that I did right. What I hope is that it will touch you in some way, and that you too will stop murdering who you really are inside.

If you want to fulfill your ultimate purpose in life, here is my suggestion:

1) Always Follow Your Heart

You heart knows the truth. Yet, we are taught since we were kids never to follow our heart because it leads us astray. We are taught that our heart is feeble, and that all decisions should be made with proper thinking.

I would say that concept couldn’t be more wrong. How many times have you done something you regretted, simply because other people said that it was the right thing to do? How many jobs imprisoned you? How many relationships turned sour?

2) Work For Yourself, Not For Others

I don’t mean quitting your job to start your own business. What I mean is that you need to have a vision of what you want to be, and only work towards that image. Don’t just get a job because it’s convenient and pays a lot. Those are just traps that your “smart” brain will lead you to. You will end up doing a job you hate, and hating yourself for choosing to do it. Deep down inside you knew it would happen before you put ink to paper, and signed that contract.

If you want to be a radio DJ what good will working as an accounts clerk do? Will it buy you more time to work towards your dream? Will it make you “all-rounded” and increase your future job prospects? Those are just fallacies that society imposes on us to make sure we “conform” to the system.

You have a talent, even if you don’t know it yourself. I want you to believe that you’re better at doing something than almost everyone else in the world. However, only you can discover what that talent really is. If you spend time trying to make yourself better at something you’re not and don’t care for, you’ll just end up being “ok” at it. But if you spend time trying to improve at something you’re naturally good at, you will be the best. And the world will love you for being so.

How do you know what to work on, what to improve, and what to master? Just follow your heart. It will show you the way.

3) You Will Never Be Where You Are Now

You’re either moving forward or you’re falling behind. There’s simply no such thing as “staying where you are” or “taking it easy”. Learn new things, grow, improve yourself, and strive to be the best that you can be. If you don’t you might get up one day to realize that the world doesn’t need someone like you anymore.

When you start your journey to self-mastery, never look back and never return to where you started. The right way; the ONLY way, is to take the next road. Don’t stop to watch the traffic or to make a detour. The map of your journey will only be revealed at the end of it, so don’t feel afraid to try out a new path. If you follow your instincts you will never be permanently lost.

How do you know when you’ve achieved your best? I don’t know. I have a feeling, though, that while taking your last breath you’ll feel like you’ve really lived life to the fullest. At that point all the dots will form a straight line and the map of your life will be revealed.

The tragedy of life is what dies inside a man while he lives. Remember that.

FREE Google AdSense Niche Ideas

Where can you get free ideas on website topic to generate Google AdSense income? No… not from me :)

But Sunny Tan does give you a good example – your local MPH or Borders bookstore! I totally agree, but I’d like to add to the discussion.

You can find good topics in the bookstores, no doubt, but some of those topics may apply to the local market only, and some topics will never be found in MPH or Borders in your area simply becasue there’s no interest in the region.

So I’d like to add that you should also go to Amazon.com and check out the bestselling books and magazines there. You can find other stuff there that may just be profitable AdSense niche ideas :)

Survey of Internet Entrepreneurship in Malaysia

Picked this up from SmartUsaha:

smartusaha

For those that don’t speak Malay, the survey shows the current level of e-commerce entrepreneurship and Internet marketing exposure in Malaysia, as such:

  • 29.3% said they are still learning
  • 29.5% said they knew nothing about Internet marketing
  • 24.1% said they wanted to learn more
  • 8.6% said they understood Internet marketing clearly
  • 6.9% said they only knew the basics
  • 1.7% said “Huh…what’s that?”

This survey give a vague but acceptable idea of the e-commerce market in Malaysia, although I feel that certain responses overlap each other and erode some of the relevance or accuracy of the research.

Will I See You This Thursday or Friday?

Last week I went alone. I was too tied up with Chapter-M that I forgot how many others out there might be interested as well .

If you’re in Malaysia or Singapore, I want to see you at the Asian Internet Marketing School (AIMS) preview. Alex Mandossian is here in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, so this is your chance to catch one of the most logical, inspiring and “nice-guy” type of Internet marketer around.

Here’s a picture from last Thursday (my…how time flies):
