20 Reasons Why Nobody Wants To Promote Your Products

Having a tough time getting people to promote your products or do a JV with you?

You sent out 32 emails to seek JV partners, and all you got was a single bounced email?

It’s normal, I assure you, especially if you’re just getting started. Getting good JV partners is not as easy as it seems.

From my experience, both when seeking out JV partners, and when being invited as a JV partner, here are the Top 20 Reasons why people “politely decline” your offer of don’t reply to your emails at all.

  1. They Don’t Know or Trust You - You’re new to the scene, and no one knows who you are. No one can vouch for you, therefore it’s difficult for others to trust you. This is unavoidable, but if you focus on building relationships it’s just a matter of time before people open up to you.
  2. You Have a Bad Reputation - In contrast to the earlier point, you may be a regular in the market, but you may have left a bad on impression on others from previous deals. Most of the time it’s because you didn’t deliver what you promised or you don’t pay commissions on time. One mistake can be hazardous. But I don’t believe one mistake makes a person bad - it’s a series of mistake that you never learn from that will ultimately destroy your reputation.
  3. Someone They Trust Said You’re an Jerk - The circles of trust. Don’t underestimate them. People you’ve never met or spoken to may already be predispositioned against your offers, simply because someone they trust or respect said that you’re not trustworthy. Know the affiliate, and know who his / her friends are. These are most likely the people that appear in the testimonials, commenters on their blogs, and also the owners of products they have been promoting. You piss one of them off, and soon the entire group will be unreceptive to your offers. Apologize for all mistakes, even if you’re not sure it’s a mistake, and never go back on your word.
  4. They Don’t Believe in Your Product - You’ll realize that newbies will promote anything you ask them to. But the seasoned affiliate will only promote products he has reviewed or believes in. If they don’t believe in your product it doesn’t mean that it’s bad. Some affiliates fail to see that your product may be targeted to the beginner’s market, and tend to judge the information you have based on their level of knowledge. So just move on.
  5. They Are Already Promoting Similar Products - If your product is an almost exact copy of something they are already promoting with good returns, they wont promote yours. The exception is if your version is better than the one they are already promoting.
  6. They Have Competing Products - You have a product on email marketing, and so do they. Unless your product actually complements theirs (for example a video version of their product) don’t expect them to promote for you.
  7. Your Product Makes Theirs Redundant - Imagine if they are selling a product on “The Benefits of Using Botox” and your product says “Forget Botox - Use My New Invention”. Nope, they don’t even want their customers to know your product exists.
  8. Your Payout Percentage is Too Low - Some misers want to pay you 20% and expect you to be excited about it. 50% is standard for one-time digital products, 40% is acceptable for recurring payments like membership sites. 2% - 10% is standard for physical products that have costs and shipping elements to it. Don’t go cheap on commissions if you want people to promote for you.
  9. Your Payout Per Sale is Too Low - Sometimes, a low payout can simply mean a low-ticket item. For example if your 50% commission only means that they get $5 per sale, they may not be interested unless your other criterias are good, for example the $7 dollar Secrets offer which had a low payout but a very, very good conversion.
  10. You Have a Name Squeeze / Fly Catcher Page - Used to work until affiliates started to see that they are actually losing out if the sales page itself does not convert. Then you get all the names and email addresses, and they get nothing. Most affiliates I know of don’t like name squeeze pages, and most serious JV offers on the Internet today don’t implement one either.
  11. You Have Adsense on Your Salesletter - Noooo!!! Never ever put Adsense on your salescopy. I’ll leave it to you to figure out why affiliates run away in the blink of an eye when they see Adsense on a page that is supposed to sell a product.
  12. Your Salescopy Is Horrible - Some people stay away from copy that contains numerous spelling or grammatical mistake. Don’t assume that your JV partners will not scrutinize your sales page. If they read your salescopy and find that it’s not compelling enough, chances are that their list would have the same experience. Seasoned affiliate marketers can tell is your salescopy is good and will convert, just by scanning through the contents. They know what to look at, but do you?
  13. Your Salescopy “Leaks” Commissions - Again it’s probably the seasoned affiliate who would notice this. If you take payments by Clickbank for example, and you also have a number where people can make phone orders and maybe send you a bank transfer, then these are “leaks” that the affiliate will not get paid for. I wont promote anything with payment options that will not be credited back to the affiliate.
  14. They Are in An Unrelated Niche - Maybe they are in a completely unrelated market, or in a “sub-niche” and they feel that their subscribers would not be interested to buy your products. Trust their judgement - if they are serious marketers, they know what their list will and will not buy, how much a person spend on average.
  15. They Don’t Like Your Affiliate System - Some people are pro-Clickbank, some are not. Some people don’t like using JV Manger or any other such affiliate management software. This reason however should be easy to overcome by assuring them that you’ll pay them for sales regardless of refunds.
  16. Your Product Has an MLM Structure To It - some people don’t like 2 tier or multi-level payment structures. Maybe they had bad experiences with MLM or MLM-type of products that they get dizzy when you start drawing circles.
  17. Your Email to Them Got Lost / Forgotten - maybe they just didn’t get your email or it got buried in spam. Or maybe they had wanted to check out your offer but put it off till tomorrow, and tomorrow never came. A follow-up email can do wonders to eliminate this reason.
  18. Their Email to You Got Lost - This is the most screwed up reason I can think of. Imagine someone said yes to you and asked for more information, but their email got lost because of your spam filters. But hey on a day where anything can go wrong, everything usually does!
  19. They Are Just Too Busy - They have their own business to attend to, and have no time for you - perfectly normal. make sure you notify potential partners early (if it’s a new launch) so they can allocate some time for you. If they are too busy, forget them for now and look for other partners.
  20. They Are Just Confused - Maybe they were initially interested, but then you did the mistake of sending them to a hyped up salesletter where they have to spend a lot of time figuring out just how to sign-up for your affiliate program, or exactly what it is that you’re trying to launch. Keep JV information pages as simple as possible but do tell them WIIFM (What’s In It For Me)

Don’t get demotivated by the list though, that’s not what I wrote it for.

I wrote it so you can understand the motivation factors that drive JV partnerships on the Internet.

It’s a checklist you can use when you find yourself in need of getting new JV partners for your products or services. Try to make sure that you eliminate as many of the top 20 reasons as soon as possible, and you should be doing fine.

Once you’ve helped someone make money from your products, it gets easier and easier to get their help in the future. They will talk about you to their Internet marketing friends, and it gets easier still.

If they don’t make any money promoting your products - APOLOGIZE!

I’ve sent apology emails to a few people because they promoted well and didn’t make any sale for my products. Just say you’re sorry - maybe their list was not as interested as you thought they would be - and leave the doors open for future partnerships. Promote their product in a swap-mailing arrangement to keep things fair.

NEVER send them packing empty-handed without acknowledgement of their effort.

In any case, getting JV partners are NOT the only way to make money from the Internet, so don’t get hung up if you cant find partners. It’s not game over until you admit defeat.

If JV partnership is the only method of promotion you’ve planned, I’d say you need to plan better next time.

Gobala Krishnan,

You are absolutely right via your specific end to marketing manner. Well, to tell you truth, 87% American nationals or in other words, let us say 41% global Internet users are totally skeptical about buying anything new. Any software, new e-book or any other item, which involves “single website = single product” methodology always comes under doubtful corner, even just for 5 seconds. It’s natural, believe me.

So what are few steps to persuade people for your genuine struggle or product, when people are staring us with their skeptical eyes? Here are few from my side, few I got from my friend:

1. Know your product/service:
Know it inside and out, backwards and forwards. You should know its strengths, weaknesses, and any proprietary features. Also understand the factors that influence its supply and demand. All of these will strengthen your presentation and help the skeptic make a more informed purchasing decision. There should be nothing that anyone can tell you about what you solicit. You will definitely be asked questions, so be prepared to demonstrate all aspects of your product/service in response.

2. Know your prospect:
Along with knowing your product comes knowing your prospect. Strive to know all you can about your target demographic and potential clients. Make sure you deal with the decision maker. You should know their purchasing habits, what motivation determines their choice, and how long a buying decision takes. You must understand how your product fits into their overall purchasing strategy. When you know the buying habits of your prospect, you can use it to develop a longer-term sales plan—that means repeat business. Put yourself in the most favorable position to get a “yes” by focusing on what most concerns your prospect.

3. Believe in your own words:
You will never be effective selling something you do not believe in, particularly to someone who is already skeptical. Your lack of enthusiasm will be an obvious as you attempt to convince your potential buyer. When you emanate passion and confidence, you break down the wall of doubt the cynic has built. To not be a pillar of strength during your presentation is a sure-fire ticket to an abrupt “no.” If you are lucky enough to sell a product you do not believe in, you still lose because you risk killing referral business and losing the trust of your customer.

4. Be transparent:
Too often, we give strong pitches with lots of hype and little information. We will say, “If you want these benefits, buy my product.” This is done with the hope that a prospect’s curiosity about your bold claims will be enough to convince them to purchase. The idea that if you divulge too much information, you could dissuade your prospect is a far too common falsehood. Be prepared to give as much information as needed to convince the potential buyer to make a purchase. Transparency builds trust. Things people do not understand will always be greeted with “no.” The more information available when making a purchasing decision, the more likely they are to say “yes.” Another benefit of being transparent is the more resources you divulge free of charge, the more likely you are to generate interest in your product/service.

5. Gain trust by associating yourself with things they respect:
By offering endorsements and testimonials, especially from well-known sources that your target market respects, you strike the chord of “trust.” Many a skeptic has purchased based on the recommendations of individuals they respect. Secure associations along these lines and look to align yourself with trusted agencies through strategic partnerships. Major endorsements mean less resistance and lots of sales.

6. Offer a free trial, incentive, bargain, or guarantee:
The structure of your offer can play a key role in building trust and enticing your prospect to buy. There are many variations of each, but incentives and guarantees are great ways to gain your potential buyer’s confidence. Guarantees and free trails allow the skeptic to try the product/service before determining if your offer is a good fit. Incentives and discounts are also valuable tactics as they make the cynic feel they are getting a value. People always love the feeling of getting something for free and buying when it is a low/no-risk transaction. By guaranteeing the quality of your product/service, you disarm the skeptic and encourage them to buy. You also communicate an important message that you are confident in what you sell.

7. Compare and differentiate yourself from your competitors:
Know the nature of your business. Is it commodity based, where the low price bidder wins? Is the strength of your brand a factor? Is there something unique about your offer? You must understand your competitors and their advantages and disadvantages. Once you have both the knowledge of your competitors and an understanding of the skeptic’s needs, you can choose the most effective marketing angle.

8. Isolate their objection:
In life and business, two of the greatest challenges are making intelligent decisions and properly following through on them. One of your fundamental goals as a salesperson is to help people make informed decisions. To do so, ask two types of questions: those to better understand your potential buyer and his/her needs, and questions designed to lead your prospect to buy. A series of well-placed questions will allow you to isolate any objections. You should brainstorm every possible reason a skeptic will not buy from you and comprise an effective solution or rebuttal for each. Any other question should be crafted in a way that allows for only one reasonable answer, and that answer should compel your prospect to agree with you.

9. Don’t seem desperate:
Your emotional state will be apparent to a skeptic. Never appear as though you “need” a sale. Everyone avoids a hard-pressed individual. Often we are conditioned to give to and buy from those who do not need our money. It is the same principle that makes us more likely give a rich man fifty-cents to make phone call because he has no change, than to a homeless man in need who makes the same request. Therefore, it is imperative that you operate from a mindset of abundance. Understand there is always a bigger sale out there, so you need not be pressed for this one. Your confidence will put the cynic at ease and make them more likely to buy from you.

10: Be Global, Mentally!
I have seen various sellers bit depressing after few years with low sales. I must not hide its basic cause, its due to being a domestic person, psychologically. Once you will popular as domestic person/seller, it will be very difficult for being global/international known seller. Iam not talking about number of orders here, its just about your online identity.

If I check any website over internet (global supersonic highway), and find written following words, like:
Africamylastlove.com (Main title)
My 100% Customers are from Africa (Slogan theme)

Two things come up in mind quickly, whether seller made this website only for Africans, or he hates other countries. Yes, you must admit the sharpest possibility from skeptical grounds while selling something, because skeptical fellow might popular simple patriotic seller as extremist one, or relate seller to political hatred side. All intelligent sellers, even they know that their specific product is for specific country, they don’t want to lose other nations/orders, who just want to buy his products for information/research purposes. So these smart sellers don’t mention such titles or slogans over their websites. We must not forget that internet is global supersonic highway, and who knows, when you sleep, any customer from Atlanta is checking your website.

Hi Gobala,
Excellent information. Covers every base and is is so accurate.
Marketers have built a rapport with their subscribers. They do not want to bombard their subscribers with non stop products. Especially sketchy ones. They want to keep their subscribers happy. They also do not want to loose the trust of their subscribers.

No I didnt answer your email, in fact I deleted it. Here’s why.

You asked me a one-liner question about something which I have no idea what it is. Why cant you do your own research? I don’t answer one-liner questions like “Explain internet marketing to me” or “How do i make money on the Internet?” or even your question “Explain numenmail.com to me”.

What if I ask you, “Explain the meaning of life”. How do you answer that in one email. I think you should consider that I might not have the time to look at emails where I must devote a significant amount of time to do research and answer questions!

The next time make sure your question is specific, or not you can just accept any of my standard answers: (1) I don’t know (2) It depends. (3) Search in Google.com

Once my grand father said, “Ignorance is sin”. I think he was right. Initially, I must state that I chuckled for about three minutes after reading Gobala’s reply to Apong. Let me guide all readers with my slightly imperfect knowledge here. Basically, people might have spent full day to judge each aspect of joint venture, or evaluated all factors with absolute broad-spectrum and if reader comes up with totally out of circle/subject inquiry, it makes site-administrator bit annoyed. This is obvious reality, no doubt.

Dear Apong, with due respect no offence from my side here. Gobala’s reaction was normal and he followed right direction. Why he did like that, I will explain later, first let me answer your question. Anyhow, numenmail.com is owned by four people, they have affiliated their website to several marketing programs, they send emails to all people as their marketing tool. Once people sign up their site, they send 2 emails daily on regular basis to promote their affiliated stuff, mainly “Get Rich Quick Schemes by Forex”. I personally don’t recommend this site for serious money making fellows. If someone enquires about their legitimate status, thus my answer is negative. Plus, according to them you must complete their limit of around US$ 800 to obtain their first postal cheque, if Iam not wrong. I have never found any person, showing up success rate. So, solution is to provide them around 50 dollars as forex business, later what happens, no one knows. Mr. Apong, this above written information was sent to me by my “Research Team”, I personally never tried numenmail.com.

Now here we are to real subject, there are few principles for readers and to comment something over websites, I hope my information will help all readers. First of all reader must pay attention to site/blog/material completely, later followings things can take place:

Positive/Negative Criticism within Respectful Boundaries

Disagree with Proofs
Declaring Idea as Valid Hint

There is certainly no space for writing such questions: “Hey, I asked you ten times, and you are still sleeping, just tell me how to make cheese sandwich? ‘Or’ “I want to know about Bermuda Triangle’s exact location or any related website, why you are not telling me, do you hate me?” I hope readers find such queries bit amusing. Frankly, I do these childish acts sometimes to check whether any-administrator is mature enough to handle online identity or not? And I did several times; don’t polish your shinny bamboo sticks for my bottom now. Sometimes, I send very strange and controversial emails to writers and check their answers too. Anyhow, lets go further as we are miss too goodie. 

To cut in short we all must not forget, if anyone writes one full page of critical information, he really needs support or positive criticism on equal basis. Lets say I read Gobala’s recent informative blog, if I comment like this with one line answer/comment, what do you think his reaction will be?

1. Gobala! WOW.
2. Damn you are right
3. I already know ok?
4. What Google.com is?
5. I don’t agree, check your email.
6. I will contact you private, Iam shy.
7. What do you think of yourself, a guru?
8. Now you telling me after my loss?
9. My uncle agrees with you.
10. Long live USA.
11. I think you need homework.
12. Give me sites for Joint Venture.
13. How much I can make with Joint Venture?
14. So you agree our Government is not doing it right?
15. Holly Maann! I was sleeping.

Of course, he will feel that whatever he wrote to obtain positive information, conversation, new ideas, better evaluation, more assistance is absolutely in vain. Because “readers” are from outer space and they don’t belong to any valid blogger’s community or they are always ready to affront or asking strange question as he is somebody’s servant? Yes, readers, you must know these things, that we all have no time in life and especially for answering such stupidity anymore. We are all busy in life, if Gobala writes for you to enhance or improve any productive data in manner of online-research, its for everyone’s benefit.

If someone replies me like above 15 irrelevancies over my websites (not mentioned here, because I don’t write for my personal popularity to someone else’s blog/site), I just don’t publish them or block them forever, you know why, its better to read someone’s comments who did in-depth research before and after reading my blog. Secondly, people forget about etiquette while typing comments, and totally show up themselves as ill-mannererd flying free fellows (FFF). Yes, I call them flying free fellows, they fly here and there to any web site, and quickly ask anything which comes in mind. I have personal experience and it’s a perfect joke for everyone.

Once I wrote blog “How to make US$ 75.00 in 48 Hours”, it was most critical data, I ever published in Australia. I got first comment like this “Cool man, you are right”, I replied him that “You need to consult doctor”. Reason was, that this psycho FFF didn’t practice it like I did, he didn’t even read complete advantages and disadvantages, he didn’t write me that why it seemed “Cool” to him, or any other related information which can improve my topic or help him to evaluate any other connected movement. He just flew here and there like FFF and wrote, “Oh! Cool”.

That “Cool” didn’t make any sense to me, and I hate to publish for others to feel just proud. Moreover, after three days, same fellow writes me back. “I went to XXXXX doctor, he doesn’t know about this strategy, damn I wasted my time”. Next day, he also called me personally, which doctor he must go? I couldn’t control my hilarity and laughter for coming days.

So guys, now you see, writing comments is not joke and all of us must think twice before inquire anything. The more you serious in writing, observing, asking in life, more it will be beneficial within respectful cycle of information-exchange. Take good care and enjoy “positive” life.
